#ShowMeYourKnits: color work

I'm making up this instarta-ish scrap C2C as I go along. I was originally just going to do rows but wanted something a little more engaging so now it's... Blobs?

This is the very first colourwork I did many decades ago. (Time flies…). It was bright green & dark brown colour but they are faded to pale colours. 🧶 #knitsky

Color work for #showmeyourknits ? That’s my jam! After learning how to fair isle knit, I thought I’d never want to do anything else. It was the same after learning to cable too, though. 😂

The shawl pinned out. Approximately 2 m by 1 m. Now to let it dry. Then it gets wrapped up as a birthday present for my SIL.
I have 9 colours of that yarn. So I will knit something for myself with the rest, an Adult Surprise Jacket. Should be fun.

I can't quite remember which plants I used for the dyes but there's a real mixture of flowers, berries, bark, roots and funghi. It's certainly colourful! #showmeyourknits #knitsky #knitting

#showmeyourknits is asking for color work? Yes, I know you don't mean boring old stripes but this is my best effort. I hope I get some ⭐for having handspun all this wool on a dropspindle & dyed it all with plants.

BAD WITCH - GOOD WITCH
This is a hat against framing and for feminism.

The Bad Witch hat is a reversible beanie. When worn inside out it becomes “Good Witch.” CHOOSE your side to wear - let’s not BE chosen. Let’s not be called.

By the way, the English word witch is gender‑neutral, and the hat comes in five sizes! Diversity rules!

Minster Cowl
Cowl with an architectural pattern inspired by the north transept of Westminster Abbey. This cowl is best
suited for a tighter knit, which gives it more structure and enhances the design. One size fits all.
The floats have a maximum of 7 stitches, but are usually 5 or less.

A jumper for a small child is lying flat on a dark green mohair shawl.
The jumper has set-in sleeves and a collar (it also buttons at the back neck). It is mostly a sky blue, with a white stripe in the ribbing bands and in the collar - the collar is quite wonky.

Across the body are 3 ballerinas - the middle one has a long ‘romantic’ tutu, white trimmed with yellow at the hem and neckline, she is en pointe in 5th position, arms at Demi second.
To either side are ballerinas wearing classic tutus in yellow trimmed with white - legs are in passé (standing on one leg- on pointe - other foot at the knee of the standing leg, the bent knee out to the side …) arms - one out to the side, the other up over the head.
All ballerinas have yellow pointe shoes and nice red hair - centre parted for the classic tutu wearers, side part with flowers for the ballerina with the romantic tutu.

The ballerinas are on the back too - with a yellow tutu in the middle of 2 white romantic tutus …

The ballerinas are worked in intarsia - with lots of duplicate stitch to smooth lines out - and embroidery for the details.

I knitted this over 40 years ago - I used a vintage pattern for the shape but I charted the ballerinas myself. The blue yarn was 5ply and cheap …

#showmeyourknits - this week the theme is colour-work. Here is a jumper I made my daughter way back in 1984 when she was only 4yrs old and I was a relatively beginner knitter without the budget for good yarn or patterns. She loved it and wore it a lot! #knitsky #handknit #ballerina
