Album of the year / #AOTY // Alben-Jahresbestenliste 2025

To beginn with the "runners-up" / longlist or "candidates" (for a AOTY) like I call them. No special order.

I do not have many albums that really flashed me in 2025. Might be a side-effect of the general mood.

This Corrosion (Bonus Track), by Lambchop from the album Is a Woman (Deluxe Reissue)

I'd some musical throwback over the weekend. Wonderful cover from Lambchop, who I saw several times live; thankfully.

Lot of great songs on this album, but this one is spinning in my head for two days now:

I realised while listening, that several musicians in my 2010 list are not with us anymore. Including the great DJ Rashad.

Today I stumbled over this video. Great work!

My music of the year 2024

Divided into "Best" [∫] and "Contender" [C]

I love to listen to all these albums, of course. But being overwhelmed by 100 oder 50 pieces in other #AOTJ lists, I try to boil down over the year.

To the #SkyMusicLounge. I’m curious about your comments.

Wholeboxset photo of "Webster Lewis Live at Club7 Box set 4xLP" from Jazzaggression.
A red box on the top left, "Webster Lewis" written on it, four vinyls standing besides, from the middle to the bottom of the picture different photos of the live music session, probably sheet paper.

So I got myself a present yesterday and ordered it.

I missed the 2007 live tapes edition already, glad I found the 1996 Repress while my only visit in London early 2000 (the only thing I did there for two days was going to record shops).

Close-up profile view of a man's head and neck.

The image is in black and white, with strong contrasts. The man's face and neck are the focus, and the background is pure white. His expression is neutral or slightly contemplative, with his gaze directed slightly off to the viewer's right side.

Album-Cover: Blumfeld "Ich-Maschine"

AI-Description:

The cover is predominantly black and white. It features a stylized image of a young woman with a bob haircut and sunglasses, sitting in a modern, rounded chair. She appears relaxed, possibly holding something small in her hands. The chair is set within a circular frame, giving it a somewhat surreal, almost futuristic feel.

Dominating the lower portion of the cover is a stereo system, a vintage-looking console with a record player, tape deck, and what appears to be an amplifier or receiver. It's a substantial piece of equipment, suggesting a high-quality sound system. Two rectangular speaker units flank the woman's chair, adding to the focus on audio equipment.

The text "BLUMFELD" is prominently displayed at the top, in a bold, sans-serif font. Below it, in a smaller font, is "Ich-Maschine," which is the title of the song.

The overall style is minimalist, with a focus on clean lines and a muted color palette. The contrast between the simple background and the more complex objects creates a visually arresting image. The combination of the woman, the futuristic-looking chair and the vintage stereo suggests a blend of eras and styles, which might reflect the musical genre or the artistic intent behind the single's cover design.

Album-Cover: Pixies „Doolittle“

AI-Description:

The cover features a stylized, light brownish-gray, almost sepia-toned image of a monkey, which appears to be a capuchin or similar species, centrally positioned within a gridded, geometric pattern. The monkey has a halo around its head, and it's seated within a circle.

The grid lines are pale, light gray or cream-colored, and the grid pattern forms a background to the monkey. The grid pattern is quite detailed, appearing as if drawn or printed with meticulous precision.

The text "Doolittle" is situated in the top left quadrant of the cover, with an overlaying "5" (likely referring to the album number). Below the monkey and the grid is the band name "PIXIES" in a bold, capitalized style, and is set against a lighter background that contrasts with the rest of the cover. The band name and the monkey image are superimposed on the graphic elements of the grid.

The background of the cover itself is a rich, somewhat textured, reddish-brown color. The reddish-brown tone has a mottled or slightly distressed appearance. Numeral "6" is present within the geometric grid pattern, to the lower right of the monkey.

Lastly, a small circular graphic with the number "13" is seen at the lower right corner. The styles of the different elements are layered and create a complex collage effect.
