Poem titled Cast Away by DD Chu I was cast away where the water breaks its teeth, thrown onto a shore of sharpened stone. The tides showed no mercy it claimed what it could and left the rest of me breathing. The crag pressed their edges into my hands, cold as the truth, patient as the clock. The waves count like seconds, dragging the night across my body, leaving me thoughts getting heavier The wake was cruel and clear, a blue cold that climbed my spine, and from it I learned a lesson how to bend without breaking character, how to root myself in pain and not be undone.

The gulls watch me ponder I learned the language of endurance Of resilience From the stone and the tide, and the long watch of dawn. If I was abandoned, it was to learn the shape of adapting. If I was broken upon this shore, it was so I might become unmovable.

But it is only steady. Only quiet. Only a thing that has learned to survive.
