#SpacetoberChallenge Day 32 Scale
I made this day up. I posted images of my Planetary Blocks planetary orbits a few days back, but here is also a video that explains the scale/size side.

Another successful year of the #SpacetoberChallenge is now complete. Thank you so much to everyone who participated, whether it was for one day or for all of the days. You all are what makes this space art filled month so much fun. 🤩🧡

Illustration of the SLS (Space Launch System) rocket at the center, over a stack of evenly spaced pink rectangles, indicating progress. Surrounding the stack of rectangles and the rocket on either side are the words “Space Launch System” right side up on the left side and upside down on the right side, both in bright green. A pattern of three pink and orange rectangles caps off both the top and bottom of the design. The background of the entire thing, behind all the various elements, is black.
#SpacetoberChallenge Day 31: Future
In the not-so-distant future, the second launch of the SLS rocket & the return of humans to lunar orbit for the first time since the end of the Apollo program. Artemis II.

#SpacetoberChallenge Day 29 Orbital
I never posted this cause visually it’s not very exciting. But I always like this bit of our planetary block poster that taught about gravity assists and orbits.

#SpacetoberChallenge Epilogue
Here's a proper scan (instead of pics under harsh LEDs) with a wee tweak to balance space's black levels from my uneven brushes/markers.
Had a blast, learned a few new things, and found it strangely relaxing sometimes.
Thanks @morgandenman.bsky.social for the fun!

#SpacetoberChallenge Day 31: Future
Star Trek’s “Phoenix” was Earth’s first crewed warp-capable ship.
A future with an FTL ship launched on the back of an obsolete ICBM leading to an egalitarian society without hunger, exploitation, or material needs would be pretty nice. #Spacetober
A classic "Vitruvian" man pose by an astronaut in an Orion crew survival suit displayed over a trarant of Earth, the Moon and Mars.
Wrapping up #SpacetoberChallenge is the topic "Future". I'll probably make this a patch at some point, but for now just the artwork. Boots on Mars in my lifetime? Perhaps. Here's to hoping. Thank you @morgandenman.bsky.social for putting this monthly challenge together.
#SpacetoberChallenge Day 31: Future
The final day of the month. I actually don’t have much on this except for two details from my Milestones in Space Glasses: #HumansOnMars #LunarGateway

Today's #spacetoberchallenge topic is "orbit". These patches recognize the critical role the Soyuz Progress resupply spacecraft serve for crews on the ISS, particularly for fresh oxygen, water and fresh produce. They depict their payload in stylized orbits. ("Fresh Products, On Orbit")

An exoplanet orbiting very close to its companion star.

Polar orbits are those that are near-perpendicular to a body’s rotation and are the best method for scanning and mapping that body’s surface. #Spacetober

The orbital side of Planetary Blocks squeezes the whole Solar System into just 2 inches. Three different scales keep the inner planets, outer planets, and Kuiper Belt in check—tied together by an AU ruler running along the bottom.

NASA astronaut Bruce McCandless, the first person to use the Manned Maneuvering Unit in an untethered free flight in space, traveled more than 91 meters (300 feet) away from the Space Shuttle Challenger during the historic spacewalk. #Spacetober
#SpacetoberChallenge ! There are astronauts, there are cosmonauts and there are even astro-cosmonauts: those who have flown Soyuz and Shuttle/Crew Dragon. Don Pettit is one of those. Here's a patch he received during his last flight. The background is inspired by his amazing photography from orbit.

I originally designed the poster back in 2016, but just recently gave it a full refresh to adapt it into an enamel pin—which should be arriving any day now.

#SpacetoberChallenge topic today: "Habitat". We go to Utah in our van a lot and our favorite locale, hands down, is usually eyeshot of the Mars Desert Research Station. The terrain is so Mars-like, they do analog long-duration experiments and stays here with EVAs, rovers, etc.
