I remember waiting for the conclusion of that episode! It was a great cliffhanger. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire
Here are the references I found:
- Saurian brandy
- Captain James T. Kirk
- Valiant (SS Valiant was in TOS’ “Where No Man Has Gone Before” & the USS Valiant was in DS9’s “The Valiant”)
- Miradorn (DS9)
- Tzenkethi (DS9)
- Lt. Chell – VOY’s “Learning Curve”

I was disappointed that we didn't see a reaction from Roass regarding the security officers who let the Klingons interrogate Jassat's friends alone. Because I have a feeling he would've been irate for their dereliction of duty. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire
37. I couldn’t find any references to self-sealing stembolts (or Chateau Picard 😊). However, there were many callbacks to earlier Trek episodes. What were some of your favorite Trek references in "Prometheus Bk #1: Fire With Fire"?
#StarTrekFireWithFire #TrekBookClub
Feuer gehen Feuer = Fire against Fire, which is a good translation. The phrase in German makes sense. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire
Do we know who did the translation? There were only a couple places where I could tell it may have been translated oddly. Otherwise, I thought it was very well done and you couldn’t really tell #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire
36. If there is a topic from the book you would like to discuss which haven’t been mentioned yet, please post it here. Some potential topics include a favorite section, a memorable guest character or a favorite sequence.

I read the original German. The writing was standard-issue thriller language. There were some things where I understood the German but was like, "How would you translate that?" But contemporary German writing, especially for popular genre fiction, is very #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire
I read the original German version. The writing wasn't bad in the original, but some phrasing was a little trite. Fortunately you read Star Trek for other reasons. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire
It seemed to fit into the Pocket Books continuity, but that's because the English version was edited by Keith R.A. DeCandidio. The story & style was very comparable. In the beginning, wording seemed a bit off, but I knew why when I learned it was a translation. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire
[Conclusion and Wrap Up]
35. The Prometheus novels were relatively unique in that they were initially written in German and then translated into English. How does this story compare with the Pocket Books/Simon & Schuster stories we have read?
#TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire
I would've liked more of a resolution instead of prolonging the mystery. But, it is part one of a trilogy, so that was to be expected. However, I agree it did set up the story very well. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire
It sent me straight to eBay to try and find a decent copy of the next book lol #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire. It definitely feels like a “part one” as opposed to a standalone novel
It set up a story, though not enough was wrapped up. I think a stronger conclusion would have been more enjoyable while still setting up future books. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire
That's a good point. You want a cliffhanger but not too much of a cliffhanger. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire
34. Book #1 of this trilogy ended on this open and unsettling note (as the initial section of multi parts stories tend to do). What did you think of this ending? How well did this book set up the story?
#TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire
I wonder how the Renao even got this kind of tech. It's far beyond what the Federation has and we have no idea what it's limitations are. How far is the range? Any world or starbase cold be a target. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire
This is a game-changer. Almost anywhere in the galaxy could be vulnerable (though the range is unknown). Like the spore drive in Disco... #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire
33. The Prometheus discovered evidence that the Purifying Flame has incorporated a secret weapon to help make their attacks – space folding technology. How could this development change the current conflict and balance of power in that sector of space?
#TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire
It was great. Very exciting to feel the tension with them. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire
It was very exciting; last minute rescues always are (and I'm so glad they made it out in time!) #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire
32. The rescue mission climaxes onboard the Purifying Flame ship as the terrorists activate the self-destruct sequence and the away team, running out of time, hails for help from the Prometheus. What did you think of this sequence?
#TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire
The ship could accomplish 3 missions at once is a huge advantage. Downside? If a larger ship appears on the scene, it's easier to pick off 3targets since I'd think the ship would have greater battle capacity whole. Another downside is splitting the command crew #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire
31. Yes, we see Prometheus’ multivector assault mode! How does this ability help give the Prometheus an advantage over their adversaries? Are there any downsides to the Prometheus when they use this mode?
#TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire
I was impressed how they behaved. They were brave and only used violence when necessary. They were able to act under extreme pressure. The Federation only acts when absolutely necessary. Klingons, less so.
#TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire
Adams was the more competent captain and made sure the mission was successful. Kromm was a good Klingon captain, but they don't work well with others. #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire
I had a lot of hope that Rozhenko would play more of a part in tempering Kromm’s belligerence, but we don’t really get to see his influence much except for at the beginning. Kromm does get some results, but it’s in a really unacceptable way #TrekBookClub #StarTrekFireWithFire
