My dog Wulo is lying sprawled out on his bed, feet everywhere, and with his head hanging off the bed and his muzzle on the floor. It doesn't look comfortable but it must be because he is completely crashed out sleeping and snoring.

Seeing this picture makes me sad for the days when we were all together and the dogs were healthy. Everything just seems to have kind of fallen apart with Baboy gone.
Happy times with #BaboyTheDog and #WuloTheOriginal in 2018. The Pig is gone now and Wulo is almost 15. I would give pretty much anything to have days like these back again.

My dog Wulo is lying on a stack of six kennel mats covered by a sheet. He has two balls and is covered with a blanket. He is looking cute and hoping I have more snacks for him. -------- Wulo will be 15 in July. He has a serious heart issue and also a progressive neurological issue that we are unable to diagnose because of his heart. Since being diagnosed last July/August Wulo's quality of life has been very good. But as of February 14 a couple of things have happened where it appears the neurological issue is progressing. We are able to manage the symptoms for now and keep him happy and comfortable, but the changes just since February 14 have been dramatic. I am not sure how much time we have left together. I am trying to focus on the fact that we are doing everything we can for him and he is happy, comfortable, eating like a champ, sleeping really great, and enjoying being out in the sun, but it is really hard.
My #Stinkapus looking super cute this morning. The last 2 weeks have been rough and it is looking like the plateau we were on for the last 8-9 months, we are not going to get back there. It is so hard watching them get old.

My dog Wulo is lying on his bed (a stack of *6* kennel mats) under an old towel I use as a blanket for him. He had his breakfast and so now he is super happy, comfortable, and snoozy. ---------- On February 14 he had an episode I thought was related to his heart condition. The vet determined it was probably not heart related but strictly neurological. He recovered well, so there was nothing for it but to take a wait and see approach. But then he had another - more severe - episode on Wednesday. I took him back to the vet and based on the fact that the two events were 12 days apart and the second being more "classic" symptoms (but still mild) we have added a medication in the hope it slows the progression of the neurological issues he is having. Being close to 15 years old and having a serious heart condition, Wulo's comfort and happiness is our sole consideration. So after asking a lot of questions and receiving feedback that the medication has an extremely low incidence of side effects (drowsiness is really the only one), it made sense to add it. Fingers crossed it helps keep him feeling good.

My dog Wulo is standing in my kitchen, looking really cute and excited for treats. We have many rugs in different colors on our floor, which is tile. ----------- Wulo is almost 15 years old now. He has had a progressive heart condition since at least 2020, but it was just diagnosed in late July 2024. The only treatment is a pacemaker, which is not an appropriate option for him due to his age and other health conditions. So we have been on comfort care since July. He has done really well, we have been on a plateau for seven months now where his heart issue didn't really change. But he had an episode last Friday, and while he appeared to recover, a follow up with the vet his heart rate is now down to 35BPM, which is dangerously low for a dog his size/age. Honestly, it is astonishing how well he is doing and feeling with it being so low. No one understands how it is possible. There are difficult decisions ahead as we watch his happiness and comfort very closely, but it might become increasingly out of alignment with his heart losing function.
Last Friday Wulo had an episode where it is clear his heart issue progressing again. True, he is definitely not ready to not be here. But, at what point does it become inhumane to see how low his heart rate can get? Watching them grow old is so hard.

In the background right, one of the other children is petting their German Shepherd puppy. ------- I took Wulo to visit a friend of mine, we have been friends since 16 when we were in the same physics class in high school. This has been the greatest and most durable friendship of my life, through seismic life changes, marriages, divorces, children, spirited debates about electric vehicles, really great events, and really horrible ones too. This friendship has been a constant and one that has become more meaningful and important to me the older I am.

My dog Wulo is lying on his bed in my WFH office, looking very snoozy and kind of hoping I don't leave the room. His bottom lip is sticking out a little and it is super cute. Obviously I am not going anywhere for at least an hour. ------- Wulo is the Mandika word for dog. When I first learned this I thought that a culture that calls their dogs Wulo is one I want to learn more about. I have always loved the sound of that word.
Honestly, naming him Wulo is some of my best work. He will be wherever I am, even when I am somewhere for just 2 minutes. I was all over the house today and at 14 he is too old for that but does it anyway. So now he is tired and settling in for a nap.♥️

A picture of when I brought my dog Wulo home from the shelter 14 years ago when he was a 3-4 month old puppy. He is lying on the carpet with his head resting against the legs of the coffee table. He looks very tired and he was, because it had been a tough day for him. He had been neutered that day and also he was scared of being in the car for the drive home. Finally, I had to carry him up for flights of steps to my apartment.
That night exactly 14 years ago I could finally bring my #Stinkapus home from the shelter. He was 3-4 months old.
I don't know how much time we have left together, but that is ok. His quality of life is great, he is happy and comfortable, and every day is a gift. ♥️
