Mrs McIntyre was Janet Auld (1852-1916), the wife of Archibald McIntyre. Her father-in-law was Andrew McIntyre, who built the terrace. In 1851 Andrew took his new wife and infant son Archibald half way round the world to join the Aussie Gold Rush, and live in a tent.

The end wall of 1 Moray Place in the Strathbungo area of Glasgow. Built in 1859, it was designed by Alexander 'Greek' Thomson as part of a terrace of Classical Townhouses. Thomson himself lived here with his family between 1861 and his death in 1875.

57 Marywood Square, the former 26 Moray Place - Bygone Bungo The residents of 57 Marywood Square; the Caledonian Pottery, how a vet electrified the Glasgow trams, and selling Welsh slate to the Scots.

As Rutherglen begins its 900 year celebrations, I note 57 Marywood Square, Strathbungo, was home to William Murray, owner of the immense Caledonian Pottery, once Rutherglen's largest employer, but now buried under the M74.

A new house history on BygoneBungo.

Matilda Terrace and Titwood Place are two tenements that face each other across Nithsdale Road, #Strathbungo. Both have strong connections to #Australia.

Matilda Terrace, as it was originally, houses watering holes Tabacs (ex The Bungo) and Bossa (ex Sammy Dows).

Today is #AustraliaDay, (or Invasion Day if you prefer) so coming up, three #Strathbungo links to #Australia. The third is entirely new.

Firstly, at 24 Moray Place were RA Robertson, sugar refining manufacturer & builder of Britain’s first diesel engine, and his Australian wife, Elizabeth Ritter.

The beautifully proportioned, and beautifully restored, former Mission Hall on Nithsdale Drive in Glasgow. Built in 1887 and designed by Alexander Skirving, it's strongly influenced by Skirving's former mentor Alexander 'Greek' Thomson.

I spotted an old advert on the excellent Scottish Brick History website that prompted me to dig into the origins of Nithsdale Drive and the ring of tenements that includes Salisbury Quadrant and March Street Police Station. Building started in 1880.

After Strathbungo and its neighbouring areas were annexed by the city in 1891, this police station was closed and a new one, bearing the city's coat of arms, was buit in a similar style on Craigie Street in Govanhill.

The monogram on the crow-stepped gable (RCC) stands for the Renfrew County Constabulary, and indicates it was built before the area was absorbed into the city of Glasgow.

William McIntosh moved into 15 Regent Park Square around Christmas 1895 (having been at no 6 a few years earlier). He was an inspector with Glasgow Police Force, and their tug-o-war captain.

But he was more famous as the father of the architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

15 Regent Park Square wasn’t just the home of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. The Aberfeldy-born Rev John Duff Macgregor was resident in the 1870s. He was minister of Stockwell Street Free Church (which was actually in Howard Street).
