Cheating for #SundayPixWeather, but given that it's bucketing down outside, it's only fitting that I sign off with this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=cK5G...
I love how Lennon mimes to his backwards vocals 🤣
Bucolic bliss. The river Calder is mirror-still, reflecting the landscape around it. Directly in front, about 15 minutes above the horizon is a brilliant sun sinking in a clear blue sky. Not a cloud in sight.
Took this from inside my flat when I lived in Wadsworth on the moors above Hebden Bridge. A double rainbow curves down from the top right, landing on the roof of a house opposite. It's incredibly bright. There's a second rainbow behind it, although not as bright due to the intense rainfall. An incredible moment to witness. Judging by how the sunlight's hitting one of the houses opposite, this would have been taken shortly after dawn, early Spring 2024.
Last two for #SundayPixWeather Sunset over the river Calder, and the brightest rainbow I've ever seen.
A panoramic shot of the Wadsworth moors above Hebden Bridge. There's sunshine, hail, and rain in one shot. White clouds above, and some seriously dark, grey moody clouds below. This was taken in spring 2024, just before the trees sprang into life.
Dark, moody clouds roil over the meadows that lead down to Hebden Bridge from Old Town, West Yorkshire. Yet, a gap in the clouds means the meadows are bathed in sunlight, which is further brightened by all the buttercups that covered them. In the foreground, cows graze nonchalantly. In the background, you can just about see the silhouetted tower of Heptonstall's Batchurch. (It looks like Batman, depending on the angle you view it from.)
All kinds of weather in these shots for #SundayPixWeather.
Took this shot in Wales, near Hay-on-Wye. There's a narrow grey lane that cuts diagonally across the bottom left. Above it, a hedgerow and trees. The lighting is astonishing. The sun is peeping just over the horizon where the lane vanishes. Mist is starting to rise, giving everything a soft, diffuse glow. The hedgerows and trees are glowing orange in places, and the sky appears white, fading to grey. The closest tree is almost silhouetted with just its edges catching the glowing embers of the day.
Sunset over Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire. I happened to be in the right place at the right time to catch this. The sun is just dipping in the middle of the valley. It looks like a nuclear explosion, brilliant white that turns to orange. It gives an orange edge to light grey clouds scudding overhead. In the foreground, two trees mimic the valley shape, and the sunlight adds an extra highlight to autumnal coloured leaves.
Sunset behind Heptonstall. The ground is silhouetted with the church tower rising (and looking like a ginormous Batman looming over the moors). Above the church, there's a large grey cloud, with rain falling around the church itself. Behind the cloud, the skies are brilliant, fiery orange, turning into a pale blue above the cloud.
Sunsets for #SundayPixWeather.
The sun sits above roiling dark clouds, with the landscape silhouetted below. Just to the top right of the Sun is the contrail of a plane. The image is heavily processed, leaning towards a dark orange-black palette. Took this in Wales about 10 years ago.
Moody skies over Yorkshire. The sun appears as a white circle, surrounded by mottled blue-grey clouds. The moors appear black, at the foot of the shot. Imagine Rothko meets Turner for the overall balance.
A thunderhead cloud rises dramatically up over low-rise flats in Brixton, London. Sadly, it dissipated without a drop of rain. To the bottom left, my roof slants across the image. There are trees in leaf in front of the block of flats, and behind the white-grey cloud are blue skies.
Some seriously bad tempered clouds rise dramatically above a block of flats that was near where I lived in Brixton. They're bruised and moody, with white highlights along some edges.
Lost track of time trying to clean up my photo storage. 7,500 pics deleted. Only 14,000 left to go! Handily, it's worked out well for today's #SundayPixWeather theme.
Starting with some moody clouds.

An old mill lodge that curves along the left bank to narrow at the far end. The left bank is steep and covered in grass and reeds, the right bank is straight and lined with trees, at dawn, the glow of the not yet risen sun across the horizon, a cocker spaniel on the field in front of the lodge

Dark clouds of blue-grey and dove-gray fill the sky. On the horizon are tree- and rooftops, with a rainbow above.
Massive billowing cloud rising up from behind treetops in a dark blue sky. An airplane is silhouetted against the edge of the cloud formation.
Dark storm clouds break open, allowing streaming sun rays to shine through; it looks like virga made up of light, rather than rain.

A cute champagne-coloured sports car in a terraced street. Three foot of snow is horizontally on the road in front of it, but only about 3 inches deep.

Two camels, with local guides, are sheltering in a large, open-fronted, natural cave. The rock of the hillside is the soft red typical of Petra with layers of varying colours. The heavy rain blurs the scene and gives the effect of the rock melting.

Sky at dusk. Trees silhouetted on the horizon, with dark grey clouds and sun’s rays dispersing into the upper sky. A mix of greys, blues and mauves.

A view over ploughed arable land, evening sun lighting the foreground and with a tree filled hedgerow in the mid ground. Above, the sky is filled with layered and undulating dark grey clouds. There is the odd blue glimpse of sky visible.
