Incantation II
By Dawn McLachlan

Light the candle
Shield the flame
Push the Dark away again

Gold the light beneath the door
Bright the step upon the floor
See the way the light now lingers
Green that stretches out her fingers
Soon again Spring will return
Close the season to be turned

Light the candle
Shield the flame
Push the Dark away again

An incantation for #imbolc

Footnote - The first part of this incantation was for the Winter Solstice.

Our bodies contain us,
but are used to blame us
for imperfection.
But I love this reflection
and I hope you do too.
Don't let lies distract you from living life true.

Some loves arrive gently,
and some teach us how to choose ourselves first.
Either way… you still deserve the kind of love that stays. ❤️✨

Logs
A haibun by Dawn Mclachlan

From a high window I watch upturned clouds fill the valley and blur the silhouetted forest. The logs remain tumbled together in a giant bag in the yard. In a fit of hubris I dig out a pair of thick gloves and decide to move and stack them on my own. By the time I manage to haul everything in and fill the shed, the mist has arrived and stealthily smothers the town. It clings to me like sweat as I tug the day's splinters from my blistered hands. As streetlights signal the arrival of evening I shake beads of water from my hair like a dog and think of the supper I have yet to plan.

Shrouded in the mist
Fearful of Winter's sharp teeth
I stack logs alone

Here's a small #SundayPoem inspired by the graceful lines of this drawing by Lee Zimmerman. I hope you enjoy it! 😊💕

They were drawn together,
naturally inclined to be entwined
as their love was meant to be.

Poem of the week: Sea-Fever by John Masefield A single missing word in the 1902 poem sparks a deeper look at rhythm, dialect and longing

Mysterious
Yet Nurturing
He travels with me
In the Astral Realm
Playing hide & Seek
In the woods 🪵
We melt together
In a silent hum

Instead of a #SundaySong, I guess I did a #SundayPoem – I did a poem about my life 35 years ago as a legislative assistant. Was I ever that young? Just spoken word (boy, do I prefer my singing voice), electric slide ukulele, and #KalaUBass.

On Last Lines
BY SUZANNE BUFFAM
The last line should strike like a lover's complaint.
You should never see it coming.
And you should never hear the end of it.

I wrote this in April of 2004 after I had moved to O'ahu for nursing school that January.

Anew, anew, anew each day
Create yourself anew; be free
From all the many ways
You'd think yourself to be.

Demure, my ass.

Okay, now that I know what it means, I’ll let it pass.

There’s frankly not enough frank filth in the world.

So bring on the filth, that’s me, I’m your girl.

Through years
of soul-searching,
I found the truth bold,
confidence in a
woman's spirit shines,
regardless of her
body's mold.

Trying to sublimate
feelings into something
else
like a cloud full
of rain
that wants to rain
but can’t.

iReadBooks Hello, traveler! My name is Pete, and I love stories. And I read books. And poetry. And other things. And I record the readings. And upload them to YouTube. You can find all the readings neatly organi...

It's October. And October means "Halloween". Therefore wanted to read a Halloween 🎃 poem for my #SundayPoem project on YouTube.
I stumbled over a very different poem though that I just *had* to read. And this poem will answer the question "Why?"
Stay tuned.
