That girl was still there, when Teruko regained… consciousness? Her corporeal form? Both? It was difficult to say, especially when the whole being turned into goo and back into herself had been quite a weird experience even for her, who was more than used to being through drastic physical changes. Anyway, that girl was there, offering her a hand to stand back up. Which she accepted, given how she was still a bit disoriented. “You’re pretty strong.” Teruko noticed, as she (Aya, she recalled from when they looked her up due to the Agency searching for her before everything went even more to hell) helped her get on her feet again. Pretty strong indeed, especially for a regular elementary school girl. Because, of course, Teruko had a knack for estimating ages that hardly ever failed her. “Oh, yeah!” Aya replied, proud and with no intention of hiding it. “I need to be, if I wanna be the best warrior of justice I can. It’s not just ‘bout the muscles, obvi, but damn if that ain’t helpful.”
No, Teruko couldn’t argue about that. It was just… she couldn’t simply encourage her and call it a day. Even if she didn’t intend to dissuade her either. Aya had been there at the airport already when they were preparing to receive One Order. Aya had gotten involved with the whole thing when taking the side of the Agency, as well as when she snatched the vampire under Fukuchi’s nose (an impressive feat, by the way). Aya had become the primary responsible in actually stopping the vampire outbreak, even if Teruko hadn’t caught all the details before the rest unfolded. Aya had witnessed the final act of her captain’s plan by appearing when Fukuzawa ‘took him down’ and was seen as a hero. Aya had been there after and still was there, experiencing it all even at its most dangerous. And Aya was, again, definitely not older than ten. “Bet you’re gonna be amazing, given how cool you already are.” Teruko managed to say, and if it took her a little it wasn’t because she didn’t believe those words; quite the opposite. “But don’t forget about being a kid too, huh?”
That might sound ridiculous, given how right then she was in her twelve-year-old form, but Teruko didn’t really care. She had been way, way younger than her the first time she got officially deemed a hero. Hell, she had shot her first gun at months old, losing her childhood to endless fights which she hoped had been worth it; of course she couldn’t say anything else to a girl who still had quite the chunk of hers to go through. (Neither manipulating her own age to taste a small glimpse of what might have been nor encouraging others to not take those years for granted would bring back what was lost, but she had to try anyway.) “Not like I couldn’t, not gonna lie.” Was Aya’s response, shrugging. “For all I know, I could still have class tomorrow. And I’m still strugglin’ with my math homework.” Maybe something like that shouldn’t have made Teruko smile, but it did.
