The 7.5 special site confirms that the next dungeon will be a former Garlean weapon manufacturoy. A screenshot on the site also confirms that Thancred will be back (along with Urianger and other Scions). This combination of factors reminded me of a Tales story published a while back titled: “Bringer of Shadow, Bringer of Light”. The story was primarily about Ran’jit, but it opens with Thancred on a mission seemingly undercover in Garlemald. Thancred is dressed as an imperial soldier and eventually attacked by a Reaper. At first I assumed this was taking place prior to the fall of Garlemald, but it was clearly taking place after Endwalker. The following line confirms that: “Although the Scions of the Seventh Dawn had officially disbanded, [Thancred] maintained a lone vigil…For the time being, a tentative peace had settled upon the world, it was true, but whispers of unrest within Garlemald had lured him from his leisure.” Is it possible that Thancred has been infiltrating some Garlean factions that remained loyal to the imperials? It seems likely that there are still some holdouts scattered about Garlemald based on the short story. I wonder if 7.5, and the new dungeon, will connect up with this somehow. I could be reading too much into this scene from the Tales story, but this might be what Thancred has been up to since last we saw him.
Some specualtion about 7.5 and Thancred (I posted about this on Reddit as well, but I will do text + one of my creenshots to allow me to spoiler all the text) #ffxiv #Thancred #spoilers
