This past weekend, while paying my Federal Income Tax, I was struck by how, for the first time in my tax-paying life, I actually thought about where my money was going and what it was being used for. In the past, for some 40 years, I have just paid what I owed and moved on. But this year, I was distressed that my money was being used, in large part, to give tax breaks to billionaires and to fund military adventures.

In the past year, we have been told we donโ€™t have enough money to help pay for healthcare (my wife and my premiums have risen from $1100/month to $2700/month), we donโ€™t have the money to provide food assistance to hungry Americans, we donโ€™t have money for higher education (or for that matter, any public education). Basically, we donโ€™t have any money for things that America so desperately needs.

How much longer do you think this is going to hold? If our current government were a service, Iโ€™d โ€œunsubscribeโ€ tomorrow. It is providing virtually nothing that I hold as a priority.

Is it fair that my taxes are being used to provide you with excellent health insurance, but you, as the government, cannot provide the same for me?

Is it fair that my tax burden is far heavier than the billionaires who pay virtually nothing? And, in fact, get generous subsidies from the government.

I do not mind paying my taxes, but I do mind paying my taxes when the priorities of our government are so vastly out of sync with the needs of our country.

We need to provide education, healthcare, daycare, affordable housing, food to the hungry, not fund a lawless gestapo force that murders citizens and terrorizes immigrants. I donโ€™t want my tax dollars to fund bombing other countries and killing fishermen on the open seas. I want my tax dollars to be used for moral, compassionate, and just priorities that better the lives of all Americans.

I have to think Iโ€™m not alone in these feelings, and I donโ€™t know how much longer we can continue to support such a disconnect.

Pro Tip: DO NOT PAY TAXES TO A ROGUE REGIME OF FASCIST AUTOCRATS WHO HAVE IMPRISONED YOUR DEMOCRACY AND DESCECRATED YOUR CIVIL RIGHTS.

For my whole life, I've heard about the "Checks & Balances" in our Government to prevent exactly what is now happening.

What a fucking joke.

We need 200 billion dollars to fight a nonsense war, but we can't afford 60 billion dollars to provide healthcare subsidies.

How does that make sense?
