Overcast, but warm morning deploying nets for #PaddlefishNetting2021 on Grand Lake, OK. We have one net expected to catch #teaspoon and #tablespoon (stay tuned for pics), but we’re primarily looking for catchable adults.
This morning we caught one of the smaller #teaspoon that we’ve seen. This is likely an age-0, based on the growth we see in Grand Lake.
8/n Any indigestible material in the gut of a paddlefish is taking up space and reducing the growth rate. For young paddlefish (#teaspoon), growth rate is very important to survive year-1, after which mortality is low.
Evolution probably favors avoiding indigestible things.
