A group of people in a woodland.
#TeamWilder hosted an outdoor skills event with the Chinese in Wales Association at our Gelli-Hir reserve. They covered what you can forage at this time of year, how to collect water & the different ways to build a den. Gelli-Hir is a gorgeous woodland to visit in autumn!

A Black-Headed Gull swooping over the canal. In the background is bracken and scrubland at the edge of the water.
Day 30 of #30DaysWild:
There's no such thing as a seagull. I cannot let it lie. I know I'm pedantic, but I will die on this hill. This is a Black-Headed Gull.
#TeamWilder @the-wildlifetrusts.bsky.social
A photo taken along Leeds-Liverpool Canal. The tree-line along the left of the canal is reflected in the water, as well as the stone bridge that is in the distance. To the right is the short grass and gravel towpath.
Day 29 of #30DaysWild:
This Willow is one of my favourite trees of all time, especially when it catches the morning sunshine ✨
#TeamWilder @the-wildlifetrusts.bsky.social
A tree trunk in dappled sunlight. To the top right of it is a Speckled Wood butterfly with its wings out and basking. To the left of the tree is some holly, partially lit by the sunshine.
Day 28 of #30DaysWild:
A Speckled Wood butterfly basking in early morning light along the canal.
#TeamWilder @the-wildlifetrusts.bsky.social
A low-down view of purple Tufted Vetch flowers at the side of a path through longer grasses. In the distance are a few pylons.
Day 27 of #30DaysWild:
Beautiful to see so much Tufted Vetch alive with insects in nearby scrubland.
#TeamWilder @the-wildlifetrusts.bsky.social
A ladybird on a stone wall. Its pale orange wings are still translucent after recently emerging from the pupae case, upon which it now sits.
Day 26 of #30DaysWild:
✨emerging✨ I spotted this very new ladybird on the shady side of an old bridge.
#TeamWilder @the-wildlifetrusts.bsky.social
A green leaf with a Large Skipper butterfly resting on it.
Day 25 of #30DaysWild:
I'm still thinking about all the Large Skippers I saw at the weekend. I really love these fancy, fluffy butterflies.
#TeamWilder @the-wildlifetrusts.bsky.social
A female mallard with her five ducklings on the canal. Three of the ducklings are together in a patch of dappled sunlight, while the rest of the family are in shadows.
Day 24 of #30DaysWild:
Second brood in the spotlight; I met (and fed) these little mallard ducklings whilst out on another canal run.
#TeamWilder @the-wildlifetrusts.bsky.social
A small wooded area, mostly in shade, with the sunlight picking out the leaves and trunk of a Horse Chestnut tree. The sunlight is also dappled on the woodland floor.
Day 23 of #30DaysWild:
Sunlight through trees is one of the most beautiful things ✨
I walk through this small wooded area most days - it's by a busy main road but that doesn't stop the wildlife who call it home.
#TeamWilder @the-wildlifetrusts.bsky.social
A lovely nature reserve tucked away in the village of Llangrove - managed by a fantastic local team of dedicated volunteers! #ActionForNature #TeamWilder
A photo taken low down in long grass. There's clover, vetch and bird's foot trefoil flowers visible. In the distance is a lush treeline and a electricity pylon.
Day 22 of #30DaysWild:
This patch has become more biodiverse over the past few years. It's enjoyable to walk through it to watch butterflies I see nowhere else nearby, hear grasshoppers & bees, and spot native wildflowers, but I worry for its future.
#TeamWilder @the-wildlifetrusts.bsky.social
A large carrion crow standing facing the left in long, light green/yellow grass
Day 21 of #30DaysWild:
A meditative walk after Summer Solstice. Spending some quality time with "my" local crows; stayed sat there long enough for some guy to think I was a deer lying in the grass.
#TeamWilder @the-wildlifetrusts.bsky.social
A photo of a stone canal bridge (Redcote Lane, Armley - on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal). In the distance through the arch of the bridge, the lower summer sun is shining on green trees. The water reflects the light onto the underside of the bridge. In the foreground is the towpath, littered with sundried leaves, and the graffiti tags on the bridge are reflected in the water.
Day 20 of #30DaysWild:
Early morning running on the canal; just me, the birdsong and quite a few spider webs.
#TeamWilder @the-wildlifetrusts.bsky.social
A close-up of a black and yellow striped hoverfly standing on a yellow rapeseed flower. It is facing to the right, so only one of its large eyes is visible.
Day 19 of #30DaysWild:
(L)earn your stripes.
Many creatures that look like bees or wasps are really hoverflies, happily pootling about pollinating plants and feeding the world. The garden is always alive with the hovering of these little guys.
#TeamWilder @the-wildlifetrusts.bsky.social
A close-up of two Yellow-Faced bees mating on a bright yellow flower
Day 18 of #30DaysWild:
Afternoon delight ✨
Two Yellow-Faced Bees getting it on whilst perched on the last of the rapeseed flowers. A new (to me) species for the garden.
#TeamWilder @the-wildlifetrusts.bsky.social @saveourbees.bsky.social @bumblebeetrust.bsky.social
A close-up of a bright pink bud of a poppy flower, almost unfurling into full flower.
Day 17 of #30DaysWild:
The delicate pink folds of a poppy about to bloom 💖
@the-wildlifetrusts.bsky.social #TeamWilder
A small black ladybird with two red dots on its back. It is at the end of a thin branch, with a few green leaves in the background.
An orangey-brown bug with a distinctive white V on its back, and bent antenna. It is on the leaves of a honeysuckle plant, coated in sticky aphid residue.
Day 16 of #30DaysWild:
Alien aphid-eaters.
The garden is being ravaged by aphids. Neither the Harlequin Ladybird nor the Deraeocoris Flavilinea bug are native to the UK (arr. '04 & '96 respectively) but as they both eat aphids, I'm happy to have them! #TeamWilder @the-wildlifetrusts.bsky.social
A large pink ornamental poppy with many layers of petals. In the background is a light green front door, stone steps and a green bin.
A large pink ornamental poppy with many layers of petals, with a bee flying in from the left about to land on it.
A large pink ornamental poppy with many layers of petals. It is surrounded by other flowering plants
Day 15 of #30DaysWild:
Absolute scenes in the garden this morning when this poppy finally flowered.
#TeamWilder @the-wildlifetrusts.bsky.social
A Borage plant with a bumblebee on one of the bluey-purple flowers
Day 14 of #30DaysWild:
The Borage is flowering and the bees are loving it.
#TeamWilder @the-wildlifetrusts.bsky.social
A female House Sparrow stood on a branch with her back to the camera. She is looking back to the left and so her head is backlit in profile against the green background. In the foreground with her are bright green leaves of a cherry tree and privet hedge.
Day 13 of #30DaysWild:
So. Many. Sparrows.
There seems to be a bumper crop of House Sparrows visiting the garden this year. It's taken me this long to realise that not only are they eating the bird seed, but they're also enjoying the many, many aphids
#TeamWilder @the-wildlifetrusts.bsky.social
A close-up of a juvenile Mallard duck swimming on canal water. It has no lower bill (bottom part of its beak, like a human lower jaw). Its thick pink tongue hangs down in a curve towards its body.
Day 9 of #30DaysWild:
✨Thriving✨
I was looking at my recent photos from the canal and spotted this juvenile Mallard had no lower bill. Despite this, it's the same size as its siblings & eats just as ferociously. No need for human interference 🙌
#TeamWilder @the-wildlifetrusts.bsky.social
A close-up of a Cabbage White caterpillar (green and yellow with black dots and little white hairs) on the underneath of a silver door handle. Bursting out of the side of the caterpillar are small yellow larvae.
Day 7 of #30DaysWild:
Knarly nature (on my front door).
This is a Cabbage White caterpillar parasitised by a type of wasp called Cotesia Glomerata. Allowing myself to embrace my fascination for the "unpretty" side of nature without shame is freeing ✨
