Her brother was a reasonably well known playwright in Germany. Grew up steeped in the arts. So, her novel radar is probably spot on.

📚🐦 #Mann2024 . 🤔 Just reading a little ancillary stuff on #TheMagicMountain and ran across a declaration that Settembrini was obviously gay but sublimating his sexuality into pedagogy (leading the young). I can see this, though I wasn’t thinking of it while reading.
Still thinking about #TheMagicMountain 📚🐦 … but my next book will be The Song of the Lark. Might put it on the syllabus in the fall.
