#TimeTravelAuthors [5] Jobs in the #TheQuantaBTales include Slaver, Miner, Scout, Merchant, Knight, Bounty Hunter, Smuggler, Assassin, Spy, Pirate, Mercenary,Tailor and of course, Story Teller. As well as all the law enforcement, security officials, naval officers and bureaucrats who get in the way
#TimeTravelAuthors [4] #TheQuantaBTales has colours as themes for each tale. These in turn correspond to a particular commodity that is traded in the Nine Galaxies; Green for food, brown for minerals, black for firearms. The colours also gave me ideas for the stories; red is a tale of love, etc
#TimeTravelAuthors [2] #TheQuantaBTales is my homage to the 80s, when everything was wire frame graphics and video games were on computers with less memory than a 21st century birthday card. Back then you really needed your imagination.
#TimeTravelAuthors [1] My new book, released in September, is called #TheQuantaBTales and features 12 space travellers aboard a starliner named the Canterbury. (Ok, you can see where this is going!)
The time travel comes courtesy of the strange quirk of hyspace, which the ship travels through
A huge thank you to @juliebihn.bsky.social for organising and hosting #TimeTravelAuthors I have met so many authors on here and gained several new followers! #TheQuantaBTales is in pre-production right now but there are preview copies available for those interested. Book launched in Sep 2025
#TimeTravelAuthors Will there be a sequel to #TheQuantaBTales ??? Well, there are plenty more letters in the alphabet (that rhyme with ‘bree’), but as stated I don’t want to spend another 14 years writing it. The solution would be to find 11 other authors to write a tale each. Any takers?
#TimeTravelAuthors [29] Some folks in #TheQuantaBTales do get eaten, disintegrated, poisoned, spaced, boiled and stabbed and an entire planet gets irradiated. Then of course there’s the whole imminent destruction of the universe thing including all of time and space.
#TimeTravelAuthors Let’s talk about aliens in #TheQuantaBTales In most cases I took an animalistic approach. There’s aliens that evolved from felines, lizards, insectiods and squids. The true aliens though are unseen. They come from a six-dimensional realm and are beyond our perception
#TimeTravelAuthors [26] My biggest regret with #TheQuantaBTales is that I will never be able to write another book like it again. It took 14 years to write. 1 year to write and edit each of the 13 tales, then another year to edit the whole book. I didn’t know it would take that long, but it did.
Working through some concept covers for #TheQuantaBTales with the idea that print on demand would actually allow me to create several different ones for the book launch event. The idea with this one is that the lines link all of the characters in a sort of narrative network
#TimeTravelAuthors the only historical research I did for #TheQuantaBTales was into the period in Hungary that led to the birth of several extraordinary individuals who went on to totally change the world. The theory is that some alien landed and impregnated a section of the population.
#TimeTravelAuthors [24] #TheQuantaBTales does feature 1 chapter in iambic pentameter; an homage to Chaucer. A reluctant time traveller finds the 10 dimensional realm of Veantar where his friend is, but he loses his wife in time. He is so traumatised that rhyme is the only way he can tell his tale
#TimeTravelAuthors [22] In order to show the reader why the main antagonist did what they did, the penultimate chapter takes the form of a choose-your-own-adventure book. This lets you explore the many paths open to Quanta-C and explores the branching narratives of the multiverse #TheQuantaBTales
#TimeTravelAuthors [21] #TheQuantaBTales You just sat and listened to Creegan’s version of events, so
I’m not gonna tell it to you all over. I’ll admit, Creegan was
smart as I was, but we was a fair match I reckon. #ThePiratesTale
#TimeTravelAuthors [19] The idea for #TheQuantaBTales came from a board game I was working on. I wanted to give the players characters like #Talisman Taking inspiration from the video game #Elite I made 12; a good and evil version of scout, trader, bounty hunter, pirate, miner and jack-of-all-trades
#TimeTravelAuthors [1] #TheQuantaBTales is a sci-fi reworking of the classic #CanterburyTales but if Geoffrey Chaucer had been born in 1970 and owned a Sinclair Spectrum when he was 15. Both a love letter to 80s video games like #Elite, and an exploration of the string theory branch of cosmology
#TimeTravelAuthors In #TheQuantaBTales time travel gets discovered by accident; When ships mis-jump they go into hyspace but don’t come out again, travelling instead to a 6 dimensional realm that runs counter to our 4 dimensions (and ten times faster).
