The Manger, Dragons Hill and White Horse Hill.
One of the most iconic places on the Ridgeway the bronze age White Horse sits above the Manger a valley formed in the ice age while Dragon hill looks on. #landscapephotography #theridgeway
Wayland's Smithy on #TheRidgeway, close to Uffington Castle. A magical place - even more so at this time of year

The Ridgeway really is stunning at the moment by bike, autumnal colours developing, great vistas, still very dry. Quiet too - tyres on chalk, wind & birds. These days often tending to do approx 20-30% tracks on a ride, adjusting tyre psi as & when.

Just completed the 362 mile, coast to coast Great Chalk Way in 27 stages. Started at Lyme Regis in Dorset & finished at Holme-next-the-Sea on the North Norfolk Coast #WessexRidgeway #CranborneDrovesWay #SarsenWay #TheRidgeway #IcknieldWay #PeddarsWay What an experience! @ramblersgb.bsky.social
A little visit to the #Avebury landscape on my birthday - first video, at The #Sanctuary. Turned out to be a more informative visit than Iβd anticipated. #AncientSites #Neolithic #TheRidgeway #OvertonHill youtu.be/4-ejuXzHSCE?...
A few more pics from yesterday's walk from Princes Risborough to Ivinghoe Beacon along #TheRidgeway Some sections of actual HS2 tunnel in Wendover. Let's hope the destruction of the countryside is worth it - I doubt it will be!

Yesterdayβs walk with my sister from Princes Risborough to the end of #TheRidgeway at Ivinghoe Beacon. What a fabulous walk. Best leg of the trail IMO. Tomorrow I start the 110 mile Icknield Way Path on my way to the North Norfolk Coast #GreatChalkWayIn25

#TheRidgeway day 2 complete - first "proper" day, 15 miles as opposed to yesterday's 7 miles and feet and shoes are both holding up. Tonight we are glamping!
#TheRidgeway pictures of #FungiFriends.
Description - cool-looking stripy mushrooms sticking out of a tree-trunk.
A mysterious circle in a field of wheat (or barley, or whatever). Five smaller circles inside the main circle. This was probably not made by aliens but I can't actually prove it wasn't.
#TheRidgeway first crop circle! (We're currently in Wiltshire, which is like the Rowsell of England)
A cool dude and his even cooler sister in front of a signpost on a pathway. Fields in the background.
#TheRidgeway My sister and me at the start of the trail.
Yesterday's 20 mile walk along #TheRidgeway from Wallingford to Princes Risborough. Not my favourite stage as a little short on great views. However, on my 360 mile #GreatChalkWayIn25 challenge I am now in Buckinghamshire and over half way to the North Norfolk Coast! Next stage to Ivinghoe Beacon
2/2 This morning's walk from Goring to Wallingford along
#TheRidgeway wasn't just about the river. The walk passes through the beautiful villages of South Stoke & North Stoke. Perch & Pike in South Stoke sadly closed at moment, looking for a new landlord. New career someone? #GreatChalkWayIn25
1/2 Continuing my #GreatChalkWayIn25 challenge this morning with a quick walk along #TheRidgeway from Goring to Wallingford. Knowing my love of the #Thames, could this be the best 6 miles of The Ridgeway? @theridgewaynt.bsky.social @thamespathnt.bsky.social Less than 200 miles to go now - 199 π€£
Yesterday's walk along #TheRidgeway from Ashbury to Letcombe Bassett taking me to the highest point in Oxfordshire at Uffington Castle (860ft). Add on 3 miles at the end to reach the bus at Wantage. Time for a short break now to get on with my blog! #GreatChalkWayIn25
Today I crossed from Wiltshire into Oxfordshire on my #GreatChalkWayIn25 challenge with a walk along #TheRidgeway from Ogbourne St George to Ashbury. That's 135 miles of 360 completed now. After 5 nights away I now need to get home for a bit of break after tomorrow's walk @theridgewaynt.bsky.social
Latest stage of my #GreatChalkWayIn25 challenge. Today I completed the #SarsenWay leg by walking from Upavon to Overton Hill where it met #TheRidgeway . More than 2 miles of this leg were along the Kennet & Avon Canal where I saw my 1st cygnets of 2025. Next stop Ivinghoe Beacon!
Continuing my walks along the Great Chalk Way this morning I hope to complete the #SarsenWay by tomorrow afternoon & arrive at this fingerpost to begin #TheRidgeway #fingerpostfriday #GreatChalkWayIn25 @theridgewaynt.bsky.social
A blast of fresh air by the horse, and then bookshelf clearing.
I should never be taken bookshelf clearing, spent 15 minutes reading a "Guide the Vale of the White Horse" published in 1975. I'm keeping it of course.

The Ridgeway section of today's ride, after Goring & Streatley was superb. Headed west so had a roaring tailwind. The track was bone dry, and easy to pick a good line. Amazing scenery. Very quiet. #cycling #TheRidgeway #WestBerkshire
Being back on the #TheRidgeway again today got me excited about this year's forthcoming challenge to walk the #GreatChalkWay. Starting from Lyme Regis in Dorset & finishing at Holme-next-the-Sea in Norfolk, the total length is getting on for 400 miles @theridgewaynt.bsky.social
Exploring the mysterious earthworks, Grimβs Ditch. #grimsditch #theridgeway
Looking towards Bledlow and a Chilterns landscape of undulating, or rolling hills and the Ridge Way the Trail traverses.
Coombe Hill with its distinctive monument and Wendover Woods in the distance.
A group begins the steep ascent along Bacombe Hole nearing Ivinghoe Beacon.
The wide track though farmland and Pitstone Hill.
Each section of the Trail offers new natural wonders to enjoy: the Ridgeway itself as it traverses the rolling Chiltern Hills and local landmarks mark out distinctive places.
