Finished this tear jerker, which reaffirms Yang Mi's versatile acting skills! Set in the 2nd Sino-Japanese war period, the story reminds me of Eileen Chang's The Rice Sprout Song 秧歌. The drama delves deep into family bonds & village life. 👍👍

It’s such a good drama (despite some harsh moments 😭😭😭), so I’m glad I returned to it

Obviously, having just finished watching #ThisThrivingLand, I’m in the mood to recommend it! 🙂 - but it’s a drama that won’t suite all tastes, so it depends on the audience

It’s a gripping & poignant story 🥹

The drama doesn’t sugarcoat the hardships of the village characters, & we see tragedy as well as joy throughout

But there’s a great deal of warmth in the drama as we witness them interact & go through challenges together

Yes, this would be my analogy. Although there were excellent dramas throughout the rest of the year, nothing quite topped #FlourishedPeony for me (although #ThisThrivingLand would have come close had I completed it then! - I’ve just recently picked it back up again, & it’s certainly comparable)

One of the things that really impressed me about #cDrama #ThisThrivingLand was the way the characters all looked like they were not wearing makeup. Obviously they were, but that to me seems like higher artistry, having makeup that looks 'real' - including pores and skin blemishes.
