A Dark-eyed Junco is perched on a spruce branch in Timmins, northern Ontario. Its prominent black hood, chestnut coloured flanks, and white belly indicates that it is the ‘Oregon’ form of the Dar-eyed Junco, which is more common in western North America.

A Ruffed Grouse, all puffed up, is perched in the middle of thick snowy conifer branches. The grouse is very well camouflaged with its brown patterned plumage.
