Join Jenny Maria and Barret De La Luz for A Course in Miracles Lesson 96: Salvation comes from my one Self. This morning's session includes commentary from Jenny Maria and a 7 minute music meditation.

Today I am learning to not allow fear to rob me on the moment. The odds can seem to be overwhelming at times but I have to remember: the goal is closer than it appears. Stay on the road. Keep putting in the miles and the pieces will fall into place. Don't rush the moment. #todayslesson #tooloudcrew
Today I am learning to be patient. Stop trying to force things. Worrying and becoming anxious will not fix anything. Trust that the things you need to work out really will work out. It can happen. It will happen. It's already happening. #leanback #todayslesson #loudtheology #tooloudcrew
Always somebody interfering because they are curious and want to get social media attention. Be smart and sensitive. Care about others and don't be selfish. #todayslesson
Two A5 sized books with yellow covers saying Numerical Questions for National 5 Physics. The pages have been interleaved.
N5 pupils studying today. One sees the demonstration of friction with two phone books. Wonders if it's true.
Five minutes spent with him and his friend putting these two together, and they are convinced. Could not pull them apart with brute strength.

This week is privacy week in my course! We're discussing all the privacy violations out there (remember the Street View roll out 😱) and how we can, at least minimally, start to protect ourselves. And of course I'll be playing this Rockwell banger (listen for those MJ backup vocals)

We're discussing the mechanisms of algorithmic bias in class today, using the Obermeyer et al. Science article as an example. I'm re-reading it for class and it's just so good in so many ways. Recommended reading for sure.

Screen shot of an old newspaper with gendered Help Wanted Ads, with subsection headings like Help Wanted - Female and Help Wanted - Male
Talking in class tomorrow about Google's AdWords and students regularly respond with so what if I get ads targeted to my likes? So then I get to remind them that gender-specific Help Wanted ads were outlawed decades ago but have crept back in (in worse ways) via "personalized" ads

Desk with equipment for class experiment on pondweed with light. Equipment includes a ruler lamp, pondweed in a jar and sodium hydrocarbonate. There is a visualiser pointing at the jar.
Great week of teaching.
Did pondweed investigation with S2, counting the bubbles.
The visualiser is so useful for helping them actually spot the bubbles.
Now onto the long September weekend. Long lie tomorrow.🥰

It is hard to pick a highlight from yesterday. Took the Alevel environment science students out into a field to look at diversity and soil. Year 10 had a good lesson developing a practical to investigate personal power climbing stairs.

Test tube in a test tube rack. It contains a clear liquid, with a lilac solid visible in the liquid. The reaction was of cobalt chloride and sodium carbonate.
My S1s enjoyed learning about the signs of a chemical reaction. Today we did precipitation and effervescence.
The colour change as well as precipitation surprised them.
They all then loved seeing the gas coming from the HCl and magnesium ribbon.

Today’s highlight. I have picked up a foundation tier year 11 class who are very low in confidence. I used @isaacphysics.org questions starting with the ones designed for year 7&8 to get a high success rate and to expose misconception. Nice, easy to use scaffolding.

I’m a bit late with yesterday’s highlights but it was a fun day. It was my first proper lesson with my new L6 environmental science students, who are very keen. We were discussing what is essential for life on Earth.

Tomorrow we're discussing the global economics orthogonal to and shaped by the development of big tech/AI. I ask my students if this quote (from Zuboff) resonates. In past semesters it very much has. For some reason I think it might not as much this semester? Not sure why I think that.

We're talking about the history of AI in class tomorrow which gives me the opportunity to play clips from one of my favorite RadioLab episodes: G
Also clips from The Imitation Game (cheesy but serves a purpose) and Blade Runner (amazing). It's gonna be lit, as the older kids say

I got to teach the same lesson to 3 classes today and today’s highlight was scaffolding for a low prior attainment group so they all had success in their first lesson, which will hopefully build confidence.

To keep the positivity going using the tag #TodaysLesson to highlight something that has gone well, or made you smile. Idea from @catrionaagg.bsky.social
First day of teaching today. Todays highlight was asking my year 10s ‘what is money’ and watching them realise it is a lot harder to explain than they thought.

S1s today enjoyed talking about changes in state, after lessons heating salol and nail varnish remover.
So many questions about examples and counter-examples - egg yolk, oobleck, liquid nitrogen. Loved their enthusiasm and willingness to listen to others contributions.

Yesterday I saw a few people using #Todayslesson but I completely forgot to add one myself. To be honest the missing apostrophe on that one would start to annoy me. If you’ve got a good suggestion I’m happy to adopt it!
Great day of teaching, including one of my favourite Biology lessons - making algae beads.
It needs patience to avoid creating one jelly blob, but my S2s did great.
Didn't get a photo as the beads were whisked away to be added to bicarbonate indicator.
