Why did you choose this particular film?:
I'd not seen it before.
Have you seen this movie before?:
No
Would you recommend this film? Why or why not?:
Yes. It's a very frank portrayal of a woman's life under an occupying force, and doesn't flinch away from what she had to do to protect herself.
Which character were you most able to identify with or connect with? In what way?:
Nina Boss as the Anonymous Woman, who finds a way to survive in Soviet-occupied Berlin that does the least harm to her while protecting others.
Best line or memorable quote:
Anonymous Woman: "Soldier! Why are you taking a woman against her will?"
Were you surprised by the ending? What would you do differently?:
Yes, I was not expecting her husband to return, but then not surprised by his actions. I assume the end follows the book so there's no change to be made.
After watching this film, did you want to learn more about the true story? Why or why not?
It comes from a memoir, originally published anonymously, it's been revealed to be by journalist Marta Hillers. As a regular visitor to Berlin over the last few years I am very interested in the city and its stories, and will read the book soon.
Anything else you'd like to add?:
