I decided to reread @vyriadurav.bsky.social's Hatchling, & this particular line struck a chord with me:

"For there would always be those who would force others into the prisons of their designs & dragons would remind them of the frailty of cages."

“Lean Cat, Savage Cat” with Lauren J. Joseph The incredible author Lauren J. Joseph joins me to talk about her new book Lean Cat, Savage Cat – out on 26 February 2026. Lauren talks about the genre-bending ambiguity of the novel, about characters that have followed her from the stage to the page, and about writing across languages. We touch on the intricacies of first-person narration, but also on what it’s like to write a novel versus writing a PhD.   References: Lauren J. Joseph’s Lean Cat, Savage Cat (2026) Lauren J. This is a fucking parody of trans women.

It's like the writers just skimmed over r/traaa, slapped together the first couple of memes they saw, patted themselves on the back for doing less than the bare minimum, & called it a day.

Two panels from Alpha Flight Vol. 1 #48, showing Sasquatch in her newly female human form as Wanda Langkowski sitting on a porch swing at an ornate cabin in the woods as she reflects on her recent transformation.

Wanda: "Maybe the god of love is confused. Not sure what to make of someone who was formerly Sasquatch. Someone who was formerly "dead"-- and formerly a man. I'm not losing any sleep over it, though. In fact, for the first time in year, I feel like everything is going just right-- For me-- For Alpha Flight-- And for the world."

I know I keep harping on this, but the fact they haven't further explored this story arc with Sasquatch further when it's OBVIOUS THAT SHE'S TRANSFEM BEFORE THE EDITORS FUCKED IT UP, is a damn crime.

An excerpt from Animorphs #43: The Test, written from Tobias' point of view:

Had it been like this at the Yeerk pool? Deep beneath the murderous hunger, my mind wondered. Had I overstayed the two-hour time limit so I wouldn't have to face the simple facts of life? Being a boy, living with foster parents, school, Rachel, Taylor...

Marco granted me gently, attempting to stop me. I hissed and shook him off.

<Tobias,> Rachel carried. <Stop. Just stop!> But she didn't block my path.

Was I a coward?

I made a prologue for this idea. Working title is "Of Fangs & Frost." It contains:
- A post-apocalypse setting via volcanic winter.
- Magic.
- Trains.
- Magic trains.
- Orcs, 'cuz I can.
- The rich & corrupt dead from their own hubris.
- Hope in the face of extinction.

Sera draws in secret, sketching her ideal feminine form. Later, while her fellow Anchorites sleep, she reads hymnals under her blankets at night. The inner monolog goes as thus, "I learned to pain because I would not have the story of my life be the story I was told to copy. I learned to sing because I changed the hymns and wanted to make them all my own."

Sera helps Angela to defeat a massive beast in exchange for helping her escape the Hierophants. The inner monolog goes as thus: "Anchorites knew that it was not a man's place to fight. But I was never their kind."

Sera addresses Angela: "I am Sera... I have always been Sera. I don't belong here. Please... Get me out."

With Angela's debut in #MarvelRivals, I can't stress how much Sera means to me as a character.

A trans woman raised in an oppressive religious system who did not let it smother her true self, who fought tooth & nail to find her freedom & find love.

A reminder that DC Comics' depiction of Atlantiadies is - like their IRL counterpart in Greek Mythology - is canonically genderfluid.

And they eventually ascend to take over for their mother, Aphrodite, as the new God of Love 💖🏳️‍⚧️

A scene from near the climax of KPop Demon Hunters, where Rumi confronts Celine about her half-demon nature. Over the course of the dialog, Rumi's demonic marks grow more pronounced with her emotions until she shouts in despair and frustration, causing a shockwave to ripple through the local Hanmoon.

Rumi: Don't you get it? This is what I am! Look at me. Why can't you look at me?! Why couldn't you love me?!

Celine: I do!

Rumi: ALL OF ME!

When I say that Rumi's story in #kpopdemonhunters reads as a trans allegory, this is one of the scenes I can point to as an example.

This scene absolutely reads like a trans girl coming out to an unsupportive parent. Gods, I love this movie 🎤🎶💖🏳️‍⚧️

A cool team that deserves its own series again. Not just as an extension of S.W.O.R.D., but as their own entity.

Not to mention, having Snowguard on as a new member would provide a new, younger perspective on the team that would allow new readers who aren't all that familiar with their history to approach it with similarly fresh eyes. Plus, more stories concerning the folklore and history of the indigenous peoples of Canada from the perspective of a younger member of the Inuk.

Not that Shaman or Talisman don't provide these perspectives, just... A younger voice from the community would provide a more modern take on similar story lines.

In addition to these ideas... I would like to have them revisit the Wanda Langkowski storyline, but from a different angle than simply having Sasquatch possess Snowbird's form. This is honestly a personal wish, but I see a lot of untapped potential in this story arc that was not touched upon back in the day due to... Certain societal views concerning the LGBTQIA2 community at the time. Northstar coming out was a huge win for gay rights and positive representation in the waning eras of the Hayes/Comics Code, but I feel like there is an opportunity to tell the Wanda Langkowski arc from a trans perspective. The allegory is there, and I feel like further exploration of said allegory would be fantastic in the current time where the trans community is in dire need of heroes, especially trans women.

I'm not necessarily saying I want Walter to become Wanda again, and I especially don't want it to happen by hijacking Narya's body again. However, I do believe that there's more to explore here from a new point of view.

An excerpt from Ela Bambust's Any Other Name, which reads:

"[...] used to their faces, he could spot looks of disappointment from a mile away, having studied their expressions like that. Charlie was a different matter altogether. She just seemed concerned and he didn't know how to frame that yet. Was this her getting ready to be properly angry? Or was she just hiding her annoyance? "Jonathan, you didn't do anything wrong. You're not getting punished." She sighed and put a hand on his back, then muttered to herself as she looked out the window. "I hate it when people do this sort of thing to a child."
