For Trans Day of Visibility we’re highlighting the accomplishments of famous athletes. Their accomplishments on and off the field of play deserve to be celebrated. They are competitors, they are teammates, and they are strong. We hope that these visible athletes remind us that sports and athleticism are important to the whole trans community. Their fight, grit, and determination enrich us all. Today, we say Trans Athletes Belong.
Chicago Local 134 Supporters Group is highlighting Chris Mosier. Born in Chicago, Chris is a trailblazing transgender triathlete, duathlete and hall of famer recognized for both his athletic achievements and advocacy. He is the first transgender athlete to represent the United States in international competition, the first transgender athlete in an ESPN Body Issue, and the first transgender athlete sponsored by Nike. He is also the first transgender athlete to qualify for the Olympic Trials in the gender they identify.
Chris created the site transathlete.com, a resource for students, athletes, coaches, and administrators to find information about trans inclusion in athletics at various levels of play. He has mentored transgender athletes around the globe, from high school and recreational to the professional levels, and helped teams, leagues, and professional sports leagues create gender-inclusive policies. Thank you, Chris, for your continued determination to fight for trans and LGBTQIA+ inclusion in sports.
