Why we did it: We had a growing problem with bad actors forking TrueNAS, selling closed-source commercial derivatives under their own brands, and ignoring GPL and other licensing obligations. So far I have liked what I have seen from the #truenas project. They haven’t been afraid to take big decisions they feel are right for the project (see also: virtualization). But they also seem open to listening to the community and changing course when needed.

Happy to see that #truenas are working to restore some support for SMART drive monitoring. I have been holding off upgrading from 25.04 due to concerns about this. forums.truenas.com/t/we-re-brin...

So I stood up a Mattermost instance for customer notifications. TrueNAS made it simple, and my Virtualmin+NetBird setup makes it easy to expose it to the world. I'll probably keep this setup until TrueNAS gets generic webhook alert support.
