Had a visit to our garden by this amazing female Sparrowhawk which took out one of the Feral Pigeons yesterday and came back in to the carcass today. 21/10/25. 🪶 #birdingwales #ukbirding #ukbirdsofprey #photography
Just out of the camera, my local worm catching Bwncath or Buzzard (if you're not Welsh), perched in a tree just over the road. It's been hunting over there most of the winter. 🪶 #birdingwales #ukbirding #ukbirdsofprey

Several hunting techniques are used by kestrels, but the most well-known is the hover. A kestrel will fly into the wind and use its tail and wings to hold its position in the air. Keeping its eyes fixed on the ground, it will swiftly drop to pounce on any prey sighted. With extremely sharp eyesight, kestrels can spot a beetle from 50 metres away. They can even see ultraviolet light, which is invisible to the human eye. This means they can detect the urine trails left by rodents on the ground, helping the birds locate their prey.
This beautiful Female Kestrel - Falco tinnunculus was captured at an @rspb.bsky.social site.
This bird was reminiscent of 'Kes' from the book and film; as she perched on th cliffs
