Zeus looking glorious, like the panther he really is. 14.5 years young and still tearing around the house like a nutter.
Zeus is also shocked (but not surprised) that @uniteucu.bsky.social’s dispute STILL remains unresolved…

Unprecedented.
Uphold union values. Resolve the dispute.

We are back to work but trade union victimisation continues, and in fact has increased since our 20 days of strike action.
We will not tolerate the victimisation of our elected branch reps, not least by a trade union employer.

Incredibly proud of UCU members and branches today.
That’s what true trade unionists look like 💪

Strike day 18/20
Still waiting for our employer to demonstrate the TU values it espouses to others.
We shouldn’t have to fight for legal compliance and honouring of collective agreements when working for a trade union.
Do better.

Strike day 15/20
Still waiting for our employer to demonstrate their values.
Unite have offered open negotiations; we have nothing to hide. We want members to see exactly who we are negotiating with, and how they operate.
I expect the invitation will not be responded to.

Strike day 14/20
Finn is on strike! Looking forward to the rally next week (sadly Finn will not be in attendance).
Thanks to MANY of those asking, but there aren’t any planned pickets in UCU’s Southern region. Focus should be turned to the rally next week in London.

“I feel more and more disheartened, depressed and stressed by working for UCU. I am trying to just get on and do my job in as professional a manner as I can. However, this is increasingly difficult... The current working ‘atmosphere’ is dire and makes me feel huge doubt and uncertainty. This has severely negatively impacted my motivation and my job satisfaction in addition to my levels of stress.”
“Whilst off work sick for a protracted period, dosed up with pain medications and immobile I was sent an email advising that my white colleague (also off sick) was to be sent flowers and well wishes in a card from our team. Nothing was sent to me from the team and it felt like as a black colleague you weren't seen, your pain wasn't seen and you weren’t cared for.”
“[I’m] Ashamed I work for an employer who has such double standards in the way they have treated employees compared to what they say to members… UCU has been very vocal about Trans and Non-Binary issues that affect UCU members and many UCU staff have worked really hard on policy and training – so why should UCU management be stalling over this for employees?”
When, some months ago, we first posted our members’ testimonies - lived experiences of working for UCU - our employer’s only response was a demand they be removed. No contrition, shame or concern for their staff: just an anger we’d shared them.

“l'm livid that those same dedicated colleagues, who should currently be focusing on pulling together to fight to protect UCU members, are instead being forced off sick or, worse, are resigning, one by one by devastated one, having reached the end after being repeatedly victimised, bullied and silenced?”
“What faith can UCU members have that the UCU senior managers actually believe in the principles of trade unionism when they are imposing agreements and portraying industrial action as being stirred up by a few troublemakers... I've been angry when distorted messages from the management team and the union President have come out."
Still Out-of-Office
We are not currently at work due to taking part in strike action called by Unite, the trade union for UCU staff, over our Campaign for a Safe & Professional Workplace Culture. Our strikes this week run for 3 days from 23 to 25 April.

“Witnessing the discriminatory treatment of my Black colleagues is something that I thought (and hoped) I would never see at UCU again but I have watched it happening over many, many months. It is heartbreaking and makes it so difficult to tell UCU members that equality is at the heart of everything that UCU does, because that is just not true at the moment."
“I came to work for a trade union as I (maybe naively) thought the values would be the same as mine, employees would be treated with the respect and dignity we deserve... How wrong I was: I see bullying by SMT, I see Black staff members ignored in meetings and the voice given to white men, I see behaviour that just shouldn't happen in any workplace, let alone a trade union."

“I get up each day knowing that no manager within UCU will care if I do any work on that day. On some days, in fact, I strongly suspect that it would be preferred that I do not do the majority of the tasks that are outlined in my job description, or attempt to implement the democratic decisions of UCU members through my work."
“As an ex-union activist, I naively thought that working for a union would mean I could concentrate on a union's mission to defend members rights and use all my time supporting members in their fights. Instead, I'm witnessing the same callous behaviour from my employer as the ones this very union is calling out. I am so furious at the hypocrisy."
“I find it challenging to sit and watch decent, hardworking Black colleagues pushed out of their roles and the organisation, portrayed as troublemakers, stereotyped in meetings as aggressive, ignored and not valued for their contributions, and not considered for promotion. I am concerned because I am a Black member of staff, thinking that I will be next in line."
“There is no mid- or long-term planning, everything is reactive, huge amounts of money are being wasted and there's seemingly no accountability. It's like there's one tiny organisation of the 'in' people making crazy decisions without talking to or informing anyone, and then the rest of [UCU] has to piece together what's happening... It's completely dysfunctional."
Our members have a lot they want you to know.

Agreed! I follow all. 💙💪🏻✨
