Unst Boat Haven. The image shows the well-lit interior of a large shed-like building. Aboud half a dozen boats are placed in the shed on a simulated stony beach. There are two mannequins, and the walls are covered in exhibits.

Inside the amazing Unst Boat Haven on Unst in the Shetland Islands: one of the most attractive and interesting museums in Scotland and well worth the trip from Shetland's Mainland to see, along with Unst's other attractions. More pics and info: www.undiscoveredscot...

The @metoffice.gov.uk weather warnings never make sense to me. On #Unst a few weeks back there was one and we had 80mph wind with the sea throwing rocks out onto the road. Today in Norfolk we have another yellow warning and the trees are barely moving and had a couple of mm of rain ๐Ÿคท

#StampStories
This week, it's #Unst, in Shetland.
Our stamps were designed with the brief that they should reflect an aspect of life on the island. Our thanks to Yolanda Bruce for the Unst stamp. Read on for the stamp story, presented in the Shetland dialect followed by the English translation.

Stepped out into the garden this morning after being on #Unst for 2 weeks and saw more birds in 10 minutes than in the entire fortnight. Flocks of redwing heading west with the odd fieldfare. Skylark and meadow pipits also on the move #Norfolkbirding

In the last 3 consecutive years #Shetland #Unst has been extremely rewarded and has produced 2 amazing lifers each year. As this trip comes to an end I look forward to what next autumn brings #RareBirdsUk #BirdingScotland #UKBirding

It took a while to connect with the blackpoll warbler at Haroldswick #Unst today. What a great bird ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿคฉ

Just been watching the bluethroat at Holsens Bridge #Unst quite nicely from the road. A car load of birders turned up and because it wasn't on view for them, decided to walk the entire area and flush everything ๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜ก

Quiet day on #Unst and was sitting at Haroldswick mid afternoon when a WhatsApp message appeared from a birder a few metres requesting assistance. He'd briefly seen what he thought was a blackpoll warbler but his views were too brief to say for certain. He was sure it was an American warbler..

It's not very often you discover something new so this double headed glossy ibis at Norwick #Unst was a real surprise.

Very quiet day on #Unst and not sure if there have been any new arrivals in the past few days. The short-toed lark was still present at Burrafirth and gave much better this time.

With the winds easing the birding got better. Highlight of the day was a short-toed lark at Burrafirth, not approachable so watched from a respectable distance #Unst Also saw yellow-browed warbler plus chiffchaff & blackcap at Shore Station. Great skua and glossy ibis around Uyeasound.

Not the easiest task in 60mph winds taking these photos of an arctic tern being thrown about by the wind. More luck than skill by me.

With strong gusts of wind up to 60mph and squally showers for most of the day we decided to stay indoors. Fortunately, our accommodation is 100m away from the beach so we spent the day watching from the porch. Highlights were a couple of kittiwakes, a lone common scoter and this arctic tern #Unst

Apparently accordingto BBC news, Storm Amy set a new record for the deepest area of low pressure in the UK for October. Storm Amy showed central pressure of 947.9hPa at Baltasound, Shetland. This exceeds the previous record of 950.9hPa in 1988 #Unst

Quite breezy on #Unst today with Storm Amy bearing down on us. Tough going to find any birds, only one of note today was this crossbill on Westing Beach.

What is it about Unst that can make you stand a scrutinise a willow warbler just in case it's something rarer.

Slightly better birding on #Unst today. More blackbirds, chaffinch and brambling around. Other birds of note; blackcap, garden warbler, whitethroat, chiffchaff, willow warbler, yellow-browed warbler, swallow, house martin, bluethroat, glossy ibis and hornemann's artic redpoll.

Another tough day on #Unst with strong gusty wind and driving rain/drizzle. This smallish ruff at Clivocast got the heart racing momentarily until it flew and could see the diagnostic tail pattern. Finally caught up with a glossy ibis and otter.

I'm still undecided on this and value others opinions. It was amongst the docks on Westing Beach #Unst It looks really scruffy but it's not wet as this photo was taken after 2 days without rain. It feeds on the ground and didn't interact with chiffchaffs nearby.

This garden warbler gave me the runaround at Hunters Wood #Unst managed to get this distant shot before it disappeared (again). Also blackcap, chiffchaff, yellow-browed warbler and a few redpolls also present.

Hard going today, I think #Unst must have a force field around it to stop the rares from landing. This chiffchaff was the only bird of the day that didn't fly away from me and out of view.
