Purple flower of Utricularia livida ‘Merrie Heart,’ the wrinkled, longitudinal crests near the base of the lower petal are easily seen (dark purple). The margin of the lower petal is ruffled.
The most recent (middle), and second most recent (bottom; out of focus) flowers on the flower spike. A third flower (top) is developing, but has not opened.
The natural distribution of #Utricularia livida is a bit perplexing. It includes tropical and Southern Africa, Madagascar, and Mexico.

Utricularia subulata, is a perennial terrestrial bladderwort. Tiny bladder traps form in the soil to catch and digest small organisms. It flowers in early spring, and can appear in mass, as a delightful yellow carpet.

#UtricLove! This is U jamesoniana. Not often cultivated, but supposed a must-have and yes, it's delicate! As an epiphyte from Central/South America it grows inconspicuously until it shines with its flowers! Grown in #NL!
