In 1968, Viet Cong revolutionary Võ Thị Thắng was sentenced to 20 years of hard labour by the US-backed South Vietnamese government for an attempted assassination of a suspected spy in Saigon.

The #BattleOfẤpBắc was fought & won by #VietCong (#NLFSV) on #ThisDayInHistory in 1963. A small (350 guerrillas) but well-prepared force blocked an attack by 1400 heavily-armed #SouthVietnam troops & US "advisers". The VC took just 56 casualties, vs 202 and 5 helicopters lost.

Often colloquially called the #VietCong, the National Liberation Front of #SouthVietnam was founded on #ThisDayInHistory in 1960. Resistance to the illegal partition of #Vietnam had already begun and would continue, at great cost, until the US puppet state was toppled in 1975.
