Sometimes compared to Rosa Parks, she also refused to leave a seat in a “whites only” seating area, leading to her being arrested, charged and convicted of evading 1 cent in taxes.

On 8Nov1946, Desmond, a Black businesswoman from #NovaScotia, was arrested after she refused to move from a "whites-only" section of a movie theatre in #NewGlasgow, #NS.
She was arrested, jailed overnight, & fined for a minor tax discrepancy related to the ticket she bought.
She's on the $10 bill, and buried in the cemetery, on the Robie Street side, 8 rows back, I think, and there's signs.
