This week I'm attending the World Conference of Science Journalists #WCSJ2025 in Pretoria, South Africa, and this gathering been an opportunity to get a close-up look at the dogged, fearless work of so many journalists all over the world—
A poster featuring a workshop at the World Conference of Science Journalists (WCSJ 2025) called “How to be Excellent: Free and Easy Tools to Upgrade Your Science Journalism”. It says: The audience will come out of this session with a toolbox of practical instruments designed to help improve the quality of science journalism. Through co-creation dynamics, participants will provide hints to improve these tools, and design new ones. December 3 at 10:45. The poster includes images of five people leading the workshop, who include Ida Jooste, Internews’ Earth Journalism Network; Esther Nakkazi, freelancer (Uganda); Astrid Viciano, freelancer (Germany); Rodrigo Pérez Ortega, Science; Michele Catanzaro, Autonomous University of Barcelona. The logo for the conference is a crane with wings out and beak uplifted.
Speaking of excellent, #TONenEspañol editorial director, @rpocisv.bsky.social, is taking part in an interactive #WCSJ2025 workshop on Dec. 3 focused on free and easy tools to help science journalists improve the quality of their work and better serve audiences. 🧪

It was an absolute pleasure to moderate a powerful session with @Ehsan and @Lucy of @springernature.com on Day 1 of the #WCSJ2025 — diving deep into the art of opinion writing. A strong op-ed should be timely, with good science, and clearly answer why you are the best person to write it. #SciComm
