A statue of a black cow with white blotches is standing upright in a human position. It depicts the famous Marilyn Monroe photo of a street vent blowing her skirt upwards. The cow has a white dress on that is blowing upwards, while she tries to modestly hold the skirt down. Marilyn has red lipstick and red-painted hoofs. Her head is looking upward as she purses her lips. The statue is in front of the San Luis Obispo Repertory Theater in Downtown.

One of San Luis Obispo's nonsensical and wacky cow statues. This one is Marilyn Monroe, placed outside the San Luis Obispo Repertory Theater. (She needs some TLC!)

This black-and-white photograph captures an urban scene with a strong sense of contrast and composition. The foreground features the shadow of the photographer, adding a personal touch and depth. A metal barricade dominates the middle ground, leading the viewer’s eye toward a building facade adorned with large, blurred portraits in the windows. The building’s architecture is simple, with awnings over the doors and potted plants adding subtle detail. The play of light and shadow, along with the geometric lines of the barricade and building, creates a visually engaging composition. The image evokes a sense of mystery and urban solitude.

Our picture shows a small, square window set into a plain, dark grey wall. The wall is smooth but slightly weathered, with faint vertical cracks and subtle texture.

The window is framed by a simple white border that stands out sharply against the dark background.

The window itself is divided into two distinct sections. Along the top is a narrow horizontal panel painted in a faded, worn red.

Within this red strip are three small features: on the left, a dark, opaque pane; in the centre, a circular vent with a cream-coloured grille made of small square openings; and on the right, another pane with patterned, slightly translucent glass that looks aged and chipped around the edges.

Below this top panel is the main window area, which has been transformed into a vivid, expressive painting.

The artwork covers the entire lower section and appears to be painted directly onto the glass.

It depicts an abstract landscape: a sweeping sky filled with energetic brushstrokes of blue, white, and hints of green; beneath it, rolling hills or mountains in deep purples and browns; and a body of water reflecting light in patches of yellow and blue.

In the foreground of the painting, tall, vertical shapes in turquoise and black rise up—these could be stylised trees or rock formations. Scattered around are small dabs of bright colour—yellows, blues, and greens—that suggest flowers, reflections, or distant figures, though nothing is clearly defined.

The style is loose and impressionistic, with visible brushstrokes and a sense of movement.

The contrast between the dull, industrial grey wall and the vibrant, almost dreamlike painting in the window creates a striking effect, like a hidden burst of imagination or colour tucked into an otherwise quiet, muted space.

Finally, our picture today is finished with a simple white border frame.

The image shows a concrete block with two circular holes as eyes and a blue curved line as a smile, giving it a playful, anthropomorphic face. The block is placed on a metal structure, likely part of a construction site, with a gravel background and scattered wooden planks. The composition uses found objects to create a whimsical, minimalist portrait, playing with scale and unexpected charm. The lighting is natural, casting soft shadows.

Here’s hoping everyone’s day is just as colourful.

*My latest painting done with splatter and dot work splatter. Abstract pointillism it also has what appears to be a wind swept small figure on the left hand side that is releasing the storm of colours which range from blues to oranges to pinks and purples.
All the work is raised and tactile in nature so you can touch it.

Two hammocks claim one of the most audacious sleeping spots on the Schwielowsee, a really thin finger of land jutting into the lake, barely wide enough to stand on, with dark water pressing in from both sides. There is almost no “land” here in any conventional sense, just a narrow, root-tangled strip where tall trees have stubbornly held their ground against the encroaching water. One hammock burns a vivid signal-red against the gloom; the other hangs quieter in dark green alongside it. No flat ground, no comfortable clearing, the choice of place is the statement.

To the left, the open lake stretches away in choppy, wind-driven waves beneath a heavy steel-grey sky, while hills cloaked in bare deciduous forest rise on the far shore. The trees overhead are mostly skeletal, their upper branches reaching into the overcast, as ivy and stubborn greenery cling to the lower trunks. Fallen branches and driftwood litter the narrow shore, a place not often visited by anyone who intends to stay.

And yet here they are. When the Rolling Stones released Let’s Spend the Night Together in 1967, Jagger was forced to soften the lyric on live television, famously rolling his eyes as he did it. That same spirit of cheerful defiance is written all over this campsite. The red hammock glows like a small ember in the grey: a tiny, warm declaration of presence against a vast and indifferent landscape.
