Hi there, JC Little here. This image is the colour study phase of my next painting. It shows a page from my work sketchbook. On the left side are two colour studies for my new painting, and on the right side are colour swatches of different pigments that I am testing. On the left side the two images that show colour studies for the painting have two different background colors. The top one has a green background and the bottom one has a blue background. Here is a description of the concept of the painting: The image is a horizontal rectangle, and shows a young man on the left and a replica of him on the right. He is posed so that we see him from the waist up. The background is a gradient from yellow to pale blue from the bottom to the top. The young man is wearing a white sweatshirt. Behind him there is a decorative strip of wallpaper about mid-level. This decorative strip shows a repeat motif of a standing crow with some berries and leaves. The figure on the left is displayed with full opacity. He is looking with just his eyes at the figure on the right. The figure on the right is a replica of the one on the left, but he is displayed with 50% Transparency. We can see right through him. Also, he is looking directly at us. Where the wallpaper motif of crows goes behind him, we can see through it because he is transparent, the crows are flying up in a chaotic manner. Where we can see through the young man on the right, the horizontal lines of the wallpaper strip, top and bottom, are erratically displayed - similar to a stressed out heart rate on a medical heart rate monitor. This young man is evidently going through some big feelings inside himself. He is beside himself, and that is the name of the artwork. This is only a work in progress, it is part of the design phase.

Work in progress! My watercolour painting of a woman sitting on a sofa in outer space, imagining the planet earth. She is wearing an empire style gown, and there are cushions and fabric around her. Her skin is dark and the dress is pale. The dress only has golden tones in it at the moment, it is a work in progress.

Here is a close-up detail of the satin dress that I am painting in watercolor. It is currently golden tones, and I still have to add the blues and the rosie pinks.
