A very subtly colored ice halo around the moon that is separated from the moon by 22° by radius. So it is officially called a "22° Halo". The high clouds of frozen diffuse ice crystals of uniform shape all act like tiny prisms at a certain distance from a bright source of light like our moon. The subtle colors are muted rainbow colors of blue at the outside of the ring, then inward to green, yellow, and red at the inside edge of the ring. The rest of the sky has a soft glow from the cloud in this time exposure. Along the bottom of the image are silhouettes of the pointy tops of conifer trees. At the 2 o'clock position from the moon is a brilliant point of light inside the ring. It is the gas giant planet in our solar system called Jupiter.
A persistent ice halo around the full moon tonight. It's called a "22° halo", but not because of the air temperature. It's about the radius away from the moon of the halo ring in degrees.
