3/3 A third Cambridgeshire church with extensive wallpaintings is Broughton. A detail of the 15th Century Doom, pink sinners being corralled into Hell.

2/3 A female figure holding a book and an aspergillum in a window splay at Willingham, another well-regarded Cambridgeshire church. She's paired with St Æthelthryth in the other side of the splay, so this is probably her sister St Seaxburh who succeeded her as Abbess of Ely.

Two knights in the Battle of the Virtues and the Vices, an allegorical 15th Century wall painting at Kingston, Cambridgeshire, a church which seems to be many people's favourite in the county. It's certainly top ten for me. 1/3

The 14thC St Christopher at St Andrew's, Stoke Dry is a tall and graceful figure, seemingly holding Christ in a fold of his cloak which is a lovely detail.
The rest of his clothes are rather unusual, he appears to be wearing an apron and the hat is certainly individual.

The graceful S shaped curve of St Michael and the folds of the draperies are really rather lovely.

Dunfermline Abbey for #WallPaintingsOnWednesday, or early 16th Century vaulting paintings in this case, in the north aisle of the nave. St Peter at the bottom, St Paul at the top, St Andrew on the right, but who's that on the left?

Not all of architect William Burges designs were implemented at Knightshayes.

This room has been painted according to his unexecuted plan. The ‘golden bed’ he designed is on loan from the V&A.

A faint, faded painting of St Margaret of Antioch at St Andrew's, Stoke Dry.
She appears to be standing on the dragon that swallowed her so I think it's showing her post having burst out of its tummy and just before tethering it using her girdle.

St Peter's, Raunds is known for its fabulous 15thC wall paintings which include the remnants of what must have been an enormous rood.
Six angels remain surrounding where the crucifixion would have been sited, it's still incredibly impressive.

The 13thC wall paintings at St John the Baptist, Cold Overton would have been so interesting to see complete.
This shows St John above a scene described as the funeral of the Virgin, I assume they're depicted carrying her bier.

A 13thC gathering of the Apostles at St John the Baptist, Cold Overton.
It's suggested it depicts them gathering at the death of the Virgin and if correct then it's a rare survival.
Only fragments survive but it's not quite as 'poor quality' as Pevsner suggests.

This wall painting at St Mary's, Purton is a warning to sabbath breakers otherwise known as a Sunday Christ.
He's shown as the man of sorrows surrounded by tools and farming equipment reminding people not to work and attend church.
It's such a pity about the later royal arms🙄

The 13thC wall paintings at St John the Baptist, Cold Overton are fragmentary but still fascinating.
This is a such an unusual depiction of the nativity with Christ in the oddest manger, raised up as if it's sprouted in the night, the animals look rather surprised!

The 24 hour clock at St Mary's, Raunds is the earliest I've ever seen. Dating from the early 15thC, two angels with delicately feathered wings support it flanked by the kneeling donors.
