Tulips flower a little later at my Devon allotment on the hill.
A nice surprise on Sunday as I’d forgotten I planted Queen of the Night there.

I enjoyed a few quiet hours at my allotment yesterday. The blossom on my Rosemary Russet apple tree looks promising.

Tomb of John Fitz MP (d.1590), and wife Mary, with only son John kneeling. St Eustachious Church, Tavistock,
It seems young John was a thoroughly bad lot, a drunkard who got into fights and murdered one, perhaps two men.

14th and 15th century, but there was an earlier church on the site.
15th century octagonal font on a more recent pedestal St Eustachious,Tavistock. Sir Francis Drake may have been baptised here.
Does anyone know anything about the stone stoup that stands nearby - perhaps older?

What a lovely poem ! Thank you. 😊 I love the tulips ‘showy conversation’. 😊
Tucked away in a corner at St Eustachius, Tavistock there’s a piper carved in wood.
He’s presumably a survivor from medieval or 16 century bench ends that were replaced in the 19th century.

A well- connected lady!
Joan Wadham (d. 1583) oddly depicted behind her 2 husbands in St. Winifreds, Branscombe, Devon.
The author of this old guidebook c
didn’t approve of her extraordinary monument’s relocation to its current position in the 18th century .

I couldn’t resist butying these during a visit to the Devon Rural Archive yesterday.
Old guidebooks have fewer glossy photos than their modern equivalents but often reveal fascinating details.
