The “House of Cards” game, designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1952, is a creative construction toy renowned for its celebration of “the uncommon beauty of common things.” The original set, known as the Pattern Deck, consisted of 54 cards, each featuring colorful patterns, textures, or black asterisks on one side. The cards were uniquely designed with six slots—two on each side and one at each end—allowing them to be interlocked and assembled into three-dimensional structures like buildings, bridges, or abstract forms. This design encouraged creativity and architectural play for both children and adults, reflecting the Eameses’ philosophy of design as playful exploration and innovation .

Got that game for my 9th birthday and have loved it ever since. Also took good care of it, all the cards are still there, nothing torn, no donkey ears.
The colorful motives and they way they were depicted surely had some influence on my passion for photography.

The House of Cards embodies the Eameses’ belief that toys and games are precursors to serious design concepts, fostering creativity, experimentation, and architectural thinking. The game is also significant for its mid-century modern aesthetic, use of collage imagery, and innovative play mechanics. Items from the House of Cards series are part of major museum collections, and the set remains a beloved piece of 20th-century design history, still produced in various sizes and special editions today .

Red roses are iconic primarily because they symbolize love, passion, and deep emotions across many cultures and centuries. Their vibrant red color and delicate petals evoke romance, devotion, and desire, making them the ultimate universal emblem of romantic love.

The English rose “William Shakespeare” is characterized by its large, deeply crimson to purple flowers that have a strong old rose fragrance. The blooms are densely double, often with up to 120 petals, forming a classic rosette shape with a velvety texture. It is a bushy, well-branched shrub growing up to about 1.2 meters tall, with dark green foliage that contrasts beautifully with the rich flower color. This rose blooms repeatedly from early summer to frost and is highly regarded for its exquisite beauty and strong fragrance reminiscent of traditional old roses.
