He was supposedly buried at the church in Llandaff, on the site of the present Llandaff Cathedral, where there was a shrine to him until 1547. He is one of the three saints to whom the cathedral is dedicated. Symudodd i Landdogo a bu farw ar 2 Gorffennaf, ei ddygwyl. Y sôn oedd iddo gael ei gladdu yn yr eglwys yn Llandaf, ar y safle lle mae Cadeirlan Llandaf ar hyn o bryd, a roedd cysegr iddo yno tan 1547. Unfortunately, not much information about his life has survived, but it is said that he was the son of a celtic chieftain called Caw. Legend has it that King Arthur gave Caw’s children lands in Siluria (Radnor). Sant Cymreig yw Sant Cewydd a ddywedir iddo fyw yn ystod y 6ed ganrif yn Ynys Môn. Yn anffodus, nid oes llawer o wybodaeth am ei fywyd wedi goroesi, ond dywedir ei fod yn fab i bennaeth Celtaidd o'r enw Caw. It is said that Cewydd became a monk in St. Cadog’s monastery at Llancarfan, and we see that reflected in place names in South Wales. For instance, Llancourt is an anglicisation of the Welsh 'Llan Cewydd', or 'Church of Saint Cewydd'. Mae llawer o'r hyn y gallwn ei ddyfalu am ei fywyd yn dod trwy etymoleg enwau lleoedd. Both are the ‘Rain-Saints’ of their respective nations. According to folklore, if it rains on St. Cewydd’s day, it will rain for forty days and forty nights! Mae’n debyg iddo farw yn y rhanbarth hwn ar naill ai’r 1af, yr 2il neu’r 15fed o Orffennaf. Mae gan y tri dyddiad gysylltiadau agos hefyd â chyfwerth Saesneg Cewydd, sef Sant Swithin.
