California Quail chicks... when they were quite small. They were brought out to visit, but we didn't dare go outside for better shots to disturb them.
We were so lucky to have several groups come by to show off the new batches. At times it was difficult to count them all.
Here they're starting to get their little topknots.
Quite often the chipmunks joined into the melee. They didn't seem to bother each other.

These guys remind me of warriors, armed & ready--it's the white stripes on their backs--makes me think of sharp knives. Their "hoods & beaks" complete the impression.

The swallows made dozens of nests last year which made a big mess, so the HOA covered the eaves with netting. Not stopping them! They build under the net or find a hole and build inside. 😜🙃
