One reason why "ship the wholesome ship instead" doesn't work for me is that the "wholesome ship" needs at least certain level of "ideal world". But I'm not looking for that in fiction.

One thing that sooo captivating about Wincest for me is that these two hold a deep, genuine love (as in general, not romantic) for each other... but the incredible trauma put on them and the co-depency emerging from that twists it into something unhealty (aka the incest)...
