In the stubble, a hare tried to be invisible; less welcome, Field Horsetail (Equisetum arvense).
Black Horehound looked black.
But treat to find Fluellen - here Round-leaved (Kickxia spuria) entwined with Sharp-leaved (K. elatine)!

A dull, dull day in Suffolk. Chilly with north wind. At least not raining. Ground hard & dry. Not a single fungus in 5.5 miles. Summer seems over. While the Dogwood still blooms, Sloes, Cherry-plums & Guelder-rose fruiting again.

Wickhambrook, a muddy part of the world on those clays, difficult to stride out on.

The buds of the Ash still tight shut as night fell, tranquil and chill.

Any help appreciated in identifying these fungi: my guesses clockwise from top right: Rosy Crust (Peniophora incarnate), Postia, Mycoacia uda & Byssomerulius corium.

Around Wickhambrook, delighted to find White Brain (Exidia thuretiana)? and Lilac Oysterling (Panus conchatus)? as well as the more familiar Bleeding Oak Crust (with Oak Apples) and Velvet Shank.

In Wickhambrook, Primroses bloom in the cemetery, Winter Aconites too, leaves of Lords-and-Ladies poking through, while the Guelder-rose still bears berries.

It's a wonder the plants keep their petals in all this icy wind...in our garden these northerlies have brought drifts of petal snow.

Now the chunky Hogweed (Heracleum sphondylium) is in flower, contrasting with the more frothy Cow Parsley (Anthriscus sylvestris).

Along the Wickham Brook a fabulous display of Red Campion (Silene dioica), and the Cow Parsley (Anthriscus sylvestris) is just getting into its stride.

Delightful path along the Wickham Brook, still flowing despite the bone dry countryside. More Yellow Archangel, Pendulous Sedge (Carex pendula), Field Maple and coppiced Hazel.

Along with Cowslips (Primula veris), constellations of Greater Stitchwort (Stellaria holostea) are among the great wayside joys of spring, in some places forming a veritable Milky Way to follow along the path.

The ancientness of Easter Wood attested to by Midland Hawthorn, Dogs Mercury & Yellow Archangel (Lamiastrum galeobdolon). Bugle (Ajuga reptans) outdoing the Ground Ivy on the warm woodland bank. Roar of insects as if the wood was about to lift off.

Some of the fruitfulness of autumnal #Suffolk #hedgerows, parties of sneezing Long-tailed Tits threading along them as families of chittering Swallows skim low over the Broad Bean & cereal stubbles. #MyWalk from #Wickhambrook to #Stradishall. Hawthorn, Elder, Crab Apple, Bramble.
