A long duration #arctic #cold snap will begin for the #Northland Wednesday night with low #temperatures in the single digits and teens below zero. Strong northwest #winds will push #windchills as low as -45°.

An Extreme Cold Warning is in effect for northern Cook, Koochiching, northern Lake, and northern St. Louis counties from Wednesday night through Thursday morning, with a Cold Weather Advisory in effect for Aitkin, Carlton, southern Cook, Itasca, southern Lake, and central and southern St. Louis counties for this same time period.
Wind chill readings in the Northland Wednesday night and Thursday morning will be in the -10° to -40° range. Northeast Minnesota will see the lowest readings, with possible frostbite forming on exposed skin in as little as 10 minute, if not sooner.
Actual air temperatures in the Northland will be in the single digits and teens below zero for lows. Just a few spots in northwest Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula could get above zero for highs late Thursday morning, but many of us will remain below zero throughout Thursday.
Winds will be strong out of the northwest starting Wednesday night, and remain breezy through Thursday and Thursday night. This will help to keep the wind chill readings in dangerous levels, and usher in what will likely be the coldest air of the winter season the next several days.
ARCTIC COLD SNAP NEXT 24 HRS:
