Fates' Lieutenant Winery Ampelos Vineyard Pinot Noir 2021, Santa Rita Hills, California Reddish in color with medium plus intensity. Fruity nose of red cherries, red currants, earth, light wood, spices, coffee and herbs. Medium bodied with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with cherries, raspberries, light wood, tobacco leaf, herbs and light black pepper. Medium finish with soft tannins and tangy raspberries. This is a tasty Single Vineyard Pinot Noir from Santa Rita Hills in California. Elegant and nicely balanced. Complex and easy drinking. I’ve had a few Pinots from this producer, and this one shows much earthier than the others. Would be nice to revisit it in 3 years and see how it evolves. Good right out of the bottle, and good by itself or with food. I gave it a light chill, and paired it with beef carpaccio. 13.2% alcohol by volume. 90 points. $65.

Dark ruby in color with a reddish rim. Fruity nose with red and blue fruits, light oak, tobacco leaf, licorice, light eucalyptus, spices and chocolates. Medium in body with medium plus acidity. Dry on the palate with red currants, cherries, plums, light oak, chocolates, peppercorn, light herbs and spices. Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and cranberries. This is a tasty Single Vineyard Grenache from California. Nicely balanced and complex. Tangy, spicy and elegant. Good right out of the bottle, even better after 60 minutes of airtime, and best with a light chill. Easy drinking and good by itself or with food. Paired nicely with hard cheeses. A blend of 76% Grenache and 24% Syrah. Aged for 16 months in (40% new) French Oak barrels. A small production of only 1,200 bottles. 14.5% alcohol by volume. 90 points. $62.
