Viper's Bugloss (Echium vulgare) is one of the great glories of #TheBrecks in summer (including making a fine frame for a Roe Deer).

Also along the Cut-off Channel: Dewberry (Rubus caesius), the more delicate cousin of Bramble, Hairy Rock-cress (Arabis hirsuta), Hairy Tare (Vicia hirsuta) & cinnabar moth caterpillars.

Along the Cut-off Channel & adjacent fields it is cudweed heaven with plentiful Marsh (Gnaphalium uliginosum) & Small (Filago minima) cudweeds, plus Biting Stonecrop (Sedum acre) & Yarrow (Achillea millefolium).

Good to find lots of Yellow Rattle (Rhinanthus minor) along South side of the Cut-off Channel - going E from Wretton, and plenty of Large Skippers (Ochlodes venatus) - here's a male (line on wings, bottom right) & female.

Ash buds still deep in dormancy, unlike the Gorse which blooms undaunted.

The Jelly Ear Fungus (Auricularia auricula-judae), so delicious in Chinese food, here on an old Elder trunk is long vanquished by the #Fenland wind.

Snoozing Gadwall on the Cut-off Channel.

Plenty of Great Mullein (Verbascum thapsus) roseates, droplet jewelled, in the lichenaceous #Breckland turf through which the Cut-off Channel slices, to the rasping calls of Egyptian Goose couples & distant pig squeals.

Roes round here vary from the oblivious to the downright complacent.

Finches, including linnets, loving this millet field off Pangle Drove, Wretton, haunt of bullfinches and at the S end, snowdrops.

It's a wonder Teal survive at all with the racket they make from even the tiniest pool...

Thank goodness for wide grass headlands and Ragwort providing an oasis for butterflies such as Small Copper and Common Blue along Wretton Fen Drove. #Wretton #Norfolk
