I love getting to that place in a first draft where I'm at the climax, describing the driving vision I've had all along, the one that made me want to tell the story in the first place. I want to dwell in it for a minute -- screw the denouement!

me reading a book: 'She said thanks and he sputtered.' I can picture the whole scene. It's so vivid. I love this chapter. me writing a book: what if i don't mention the characters' nails and then readers don't think they have nails. i should include the sounds they make on various surfaces so readers know there is sound in this universe. i'll spent today cycling through youtube nail asmrs to ensure i employ only the most precise language for every tippy-tap. i will note each character's nail length in millimeters

When you write a lot, you will forget what you wrote and when you wrote it. Get in the habit of good storage of your saved writing. Keep your writing in logical ways easy for your future self to find. Don't get strongly attached. Move on.
