I love the idea of @cheknews.ca's #WeatherSchool with Tess van Straaten - it's not learning only for school children, but for viewers as well!

Cannot complain about this view of the Province of British Columbia Legislature building as seen from the Fairmont Empress Hotel.
A calm & crisp evening in the BC capital, #Victoria.

Nope. The gusts are as strong/stronger than have been through the night, and the sustained winds are a decent roar. It's still storming good here!

Surprised by these Environment Canada alerts that just came through: coastal flooding statements in effect from #SwartzBay to #EastSooke!
Heads-up #Sidney #CSaan #Saanich.

Good morning Victoria BC!
A glorious very late summer, early autumn day. 14°C, a mainly sunny sky, and some shallow fog lurking over Haro & Juan de Fuca Straits.

Here in the Borderlands, thought I heard a low bass noise. Initially figured it was the Celebrity Edge, leaving the Harbour District, but it continues every couple of minutes, so I'm guessing it's a foghorn. 🌫️🔈

Heads-up inland #VancouverIsland: advisory alert on incoming thunderstorms!⛈️⚡🌩️
Looks like #Sooke and #Metchosin could see a bit of it.😬

A deep green-grey choppy ocean breaks on a stony beach. The clouds above it swoop in two dramatic arcs, the ones on the left top wispy and white, the on the right bottom a misty dark grey that promises rain and (as it later proved) hail. At the bottom of the photo a small gull has splooted out quite flat on a concrete ledge, so it can point into the wind but not be tipped over by the shockingly strong gusts. Whenever I look across to Port Angeles (right frame, across ocean) on a sunny day, it's either enveloped in a fog bank or getting the full force of a storm. Sequim off to the left always has sunbeams though, it's very interesting. People visiting from Sequim always seem super happy too, I wonder if it's all the extra light?
Dramatic clouds at the breakwater as the squall moves in. Also check out the splooted gull at the bottom of the photo, I've never seen a gull do that before, but it sure makes it hard for a gust to blow it off its ledge!

A sunny ocean cove is pictured, with grassy bluffs in front and a long arch out to a rocky Clover Point in the distance. White puffy clouds hug the horizon, but a curious horseshoe shaped cloud hovers in the middle of the picture: it has a vertical wrinkled structure that seems to indicate unusual movement of moisture/temperatures within the cloud (I guess? That is what they used to say in school in the prairies for clouds like this). This beautiful spot is Lekwungen Traditional Territory, the site of an important historic village and crucial food gathering meadows that still bloom prolifically every spring under their stewardship.
Exciting clouds today, behind me was a dark misty squall stretching from the south Island over to Port Angeles, and this weird circular cloud like something that would form near Calgary, not here in Victoria.
