Meet Mary Somerville, The Scholar For Whom The Word "Scientist" Was Invented Without this pioneering yet overlooked woman, we wouldn't even have the word "scientist."

Today I learnt that the term "scientist" was created for women.
When writing a glowing review of the works by Mary Somerville in 1834, scientific historian William Whewell coined the term for her, because at the time scientists were known as "men of science".

Today I saw the term "4th world country" for the first time. One of the definitions is "Sub-populations existing in a First World country, but with the living standards of those of a Third World."

Query: Sorceresses and Indecent Exposure | H-Net Colleagues,In Book 3, Chapter 27 of Nishmat Hayyim, Menasseh ben Israel writes about sorceresses showing their genitals to (presumably) pious persons, who respond by saying that the sorcerers should eat hot dung in perforated baskets. ย The latter part is from Pesachim 110a. ย But what about the idea that sorceresses (or witches) reveal their genitals? ย Does anyone know a source for that concept?Sincerely,Jacob AdlerUniversity of ArkansasPhilosophy DepartmentFayetteville, Arkansas
