I know it's still over a week out, but I wanted to share the next holiday I helped develop for the universe in my favorite book series. The holiday is called Vartra's Respite. On the Zhal calendar, it falls on Zhal-Vartra the 11th. On the Terran calendar, this year it falls on September 1st. ------------------------------------ The day of the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year, is a festival of rest and renewal. It’s a day taken off to take a break from the hard work done, to prepare for the rest of the year. The Artist’s Guild hosts a fair that offers entertainment and leisure activities, allowing people to spend quality time with loved ones without obligation. The Story While in Ghyakulla’s care, her consort Vartra has the time to pursue his goals, taking up his forge to work on the tools she uses to care for her realm, and his own for protection, as well as items Kuushoi requested upon his return to her realm. During the warmest day of his stay, Ghyakulla entreats him to take rest, to lay down his hammer and give the forge time so as not to break. She conjures for him a bed of his beloved Nung flowers, bidding him to lie down while she sees to his needs as he to hers. She has her Dzinae bring him trinkets and treats, so that he might find pleasure during his respite. He indulges her whimsy, enjoying the time and company. They eat the noon meal together and curl around each other to sleep it off. The rest of the day goes much as the beginning had, and at the end, they retire for the night. The next day, feeling rested and energized, Vartra can return to his work with more vigor than he had previously.
