Tx #Acanthamoeba success is 75-85%. topical Chlorhexidine 0.02% & polyhexamethylene biguanide PHMB 0.02% effective against cysts & trophozoites. If failed tx: topical voriconazole +/- intrastromal injection. Surgical debridement & corneal transplant are sometimes necessary
#Acanthamoeba dx using non-nutrient agar saline plate seeded w/ E coli. PCR to confirm dx esp when contact lenses are involved. Molecular methods also available for detection & identification. fluorescent in situ hybridization technique can be used
