The #jizya is a tax formerly levied on non-Muslims in #Muslim-ruled lands, to make up for their not having to pay the #zakat tax levied on Muslims. In 1564 on #ThisDayInHistory, #AkbarTheGreat of the #MughalEmpire abolished the jizya to improve relations with the #Hindu majority.
